Paradisus La Perla–Day 4. Xplor

So as I stated before we were VERY hesitant to leave the resort. Of course we heard all the horror stories about people getting in trouble in Mexico..so I just wasn’t too sure!

But Yosh and I told ourselves we HAVE to take full advantage of being kidless…we have to do things that we wouldn’t be able to if we had our kids with us.  So we choose 2 excursions.  One being to a place called Xplor and one to swim with dolphins.

First up was our day at Xplor. Now looking back on it…drinking and taking shots at Senor Frogs the night before probably wasn’t the smartest idea.  I thought we would be taking a van to our destination BUT no…it was a bus! Like big charter bus! Yeah…if you know me you know I DON’T do buses very well (flashback to my bus ride from Galway to Foxford after a night of drinking in Ireland a few years back ughhh)

The bus ride AND hangover weren’t a good combo…I was running off that bus by the time we arrived at Xplor…and RAN to the bathroom. ugh.  But after that all was ok!

Xplor was like an adventure theme park. When we saw the brochure (pictured above) we new it was mellow enough YET adventurous enough for us Souza’s. (We are pretty easily pleased)  Once you are checked in you are told you have to wear the helmet ALL day. And you leave all your belongings locked into a locker.  I was annoyed because I didn’t have a holder for my iphone…I needed like a wrist strap or something.

This was the path underground to get into the park…

It was all man-made…pretty cool but next time we go I would like to go to the natural cenotes.

First up was the ziplining course.  There were 2 to choose from…we went with the longer one…and after that we felt that we didn’t need to do the shorter one.  It was pretty awesome, our first time ever ziplining.

It was kinda difficult to ride the zipline AND hold the GoPro straight enough to take pictures and videos. The ziplining course was A LOT of walking, stair stepping, etc.  HELL the whole park was a TON of walking. I wish I knew how many steps/distance we walked that day!  I think the zipline had like 17 different launching sites. It was fun…but we both agreed that we wouldn’t HAVE to do it again…but were very happy we did it!!

So during the ziplining Yosh was able to keep my phone in his pocket, so I dropped it off to our locker before doing the next activity. WROnG MOVE! I was so annoyed with that decision. Our next 2 activities were the underground rivers. ANd it was very dark down there….and the GoPro doesn’t have a flash. So we didn’t get very good pictures during our underground rafting OR swimming.  But thats ok. It was beautiful and fun and the dark pictures we DID get are just part of the memories! lol

The Rafting was a 2 person raft.  We both had hand paddles and were to work together to row through the underwater river.  We worked great together BUT Yosh decided he wanted to do it…so I sat back and allowed him the arm workout! haha

Then we did swimming through an underground river.  I wish they would have allowed us NOT to have a lifejacket but I get all the liability stuff. But lifejackets just annoy me.  The water was freezing so we floated a little but swam around the people…without getting our faces wet.
Before we have left for Cancun Yosh read an article about a girl who was at a man-made water park white water rafting in South Carolina or somewhere and died from a brain eating amoeba.  Super rare thing found in fresh water (lakes, ponds, streams) and under chlorinated swimming pools. Scary sh*t.  But we were half joking the whole time that we didn’t want to contract some Mexican Amoeba…so we kept our heads above water! haha

And keeping our heads above water was going JUST fine…until we came to this watering hole, waterfall thing.  We had to pass through it to get out! Ahhhhh haha.  We were laughing to hard at all the people getting the mexican brain eating amoeba and how we were strategically trying to figure a way around our faces getting wet! hahaha We laughed and laughed at ourselves.

It was beautiful! And we had fun…and prayed we wouldn’t die…in Mexico.

Our last activity was advertised as an “Amphibious Car”.  Well…I dunno if I’d call it THAT but it was an off roading go-cart type thing and we drove through puddles. haha I DID feel like we were driving around Jurassic Park though…well without the dinosaurs chasing us.

Yes I drove…and yes I only crashed a little bit one time! Oops.  But it was more laughing, screaming and having a good time!!

So after those 4 activities we were done ahead of schedule.  The ticket price also included a lunch buffet too. So we ate lunch and then decided to get a taxi back to the hotel rather than wait the 2 hours for our bus.  Worth the $20 taxi ride…especially since riding another bus did NOT sound fun!

Got back to the resort and had dinner reservations at the “fancy mexican” place called Mole.  I think it ended up being our favorite place.

The food was good…fancy and  totally stuff I would have never ordered or even tried if it wasn’t for being “free” haha.

The dessert was brought out with this dry-ice fog…it was told to us that in the Aztec culture it was a sign of love and good luck.  I just thought it was super cool!

Another great day in paradise!
