In one way it feels like I got married a million years ago…but then again when I hear about people planning weddings I feel like mine was just yesterday. I do remember I wasn’t a fan of wedding planning…but our wedding was a good time! If I could do it again I would love to attend my wedding so I could REALLY enjoy it like our guests did!
But 10 years and 3 kids later…I told Yosh I wanted to make sure we got away and celebrated US. And we totally did!!!
Originally I REALLY wanted to explore Europe. And I thought the best way to get the best bang for our buck was to do a cruise. BUT..the world is a scary place at this time. Some much crime and crazy sh*t is happening we thought it might not be a good time to venture away and risk anything!
So we went for an all inclusive, adults only resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico.
Best decision ever! There are TONS of resorts in the Cancun area. So Yosh sorted through soooo many of them to see which would be best for us AND in our budget. We went with the Paradisus La Perla. Marvelous!
The night before our flight we decided it would be best to stay the night at a hotel by LAX that would keep our car for the 7 days as well…that way we didn’t have to hassle anyone for a ride to the airport! We started doing this in December before our Ireland trip and its works out AMAZINGLY!
I was a little apprehensive leaving the kids. NOT because I thought my mom wasn’t capable of caring for them BUT I was just nervous because 3 kids for 7 days is hard. I had 153oz of pumped breastmilk for Maggie…the pantry filled with fruit snacks for Ella and the ipads fully charged for Owen…they should all be set! lol
We stopped at Brothers Sushi in Norco before going…we have wanted to try it out but with picky children it just doesn’t happen…so we did. It was good! My normal boring Crunch Roll was special…with purple rice! Wow!
We stayed at the La Quinta…yeaaaaah we won’t be going back! haha It did the job for the night BUT yeah.
Got to LAX for some breakfast at Gladstones (overpriced and not great) and had time to FaceTime the kids before take offi!
I haven’t had such a relaxing flight in my life!! We went from LAX directly to Cancun, Mexico. It was 5hours and great!
I told myself I was going to have a cocktail on the plane…JUST because I could! But decided not too…didn’t want to ruin a good thing! haha So I read Me Before You (which I ended up finishing on the plane home…so good but grab some Kleenex)
We flew with Virgin America…I was excited. I flew with Virgin Atlantic once when I was a kid and it was so awesome. I was expecting great things…BUUUUUT yeah. It fell short! The check-in area had cool music playing, fancy lights so I thought it was great. Getting on the plane I quickly realized it wasn’t. The flight attendants were NOT pleasant. They seemed annoyed and not helpful at all. It was a 5 hour flight and all we got was a complimentary beverage. Not even a bag of pretzels. We could have BOUGHT food, but I heard them telling people around me that most of it was sold out by the time they got to us! Once our plane got into Mexico territory we lost all satellites for the tv. So no free ANYTHING. Of course you could pay $8 to rent a movie though…WTF. We fly to NY on our way to Ireland and we always get free movies, snacks, etc. I won’t be flying Virgin America again.
I’m not going to lie…we were really nervous about landing in Cancun. We weren’t sure what to expect. Our paperwork was so detailed about how and where to meet our transportation (BD Travel). They explained that people in the terminal will try and tell us that BD Travel doesn’t exist and hassle us to go with their company for transportation…so I was nervous. BUT it wasn’t like that at all! We found our people easily, and made the trek to our hotel. Only bad thing…we had 3 other groups in our van…so that was 2 extra stops…and so it took almost 2 hours to get to our hotel. (Playa Del Carmen is only like 20 mins from the airport…)
Our drive to our hotel was kinda eye-opening. Seeing the way some people in Mexico live was sad. I couldn’t wrap by head around what I was seeing. But I was also shocked how GREEN Mexico was. It was raining when we landed…I was nervous our weather was going to suck the whole trip…but it didn’t.
We were so excited about what our adventure would hold.
