Shrek The Musical

A few months ago our high school’s theatre production put out a flyer saying they were having auditions for our spring production of Shrek The Musical.  Owen was pumped…his friend Addi had been in a few productions so he wanted to do it as well…and Shrek wasn’t girlie so he was really excited.

Auditions went great…he danced, sang and followed choreography (from what I was told…they were closed to all parents!)  We had weeks and weeks of practice (only once a week for 2-3 hours…but it felt like MUCH more!), a “tech week”…which is the week before Opening Night they practice FOR-EVER! But Owen LOVED every minute of it.

Nana was my date for Opening Night.  Owen had 6 shows…1 Friday night and 2 Saturday…for 2 weeks. It was a busy time but with the help of Nana and Taryn we were able to get him to all the shows!

I had never seen the Broadway version of Shrek Musical…but I was SO impressed with the talent from SO many of our students. It was fun because I had a good handful of past and current students.  Love seeing them in a different light…they flourish on stage as opposed to on the track at PE.

Owen and most of the other “littles” were only in 2 scenes. But they were so proud to be in those!!! I was SO excited to see him run out and start dancing and singing.  First appearance was right before Intermission…and they sang and danced to Donkey Pot Pie!

After Intermission Owen appeared on stage again, as a little birdie, during Morning Bird (I think thats the name of the song).

Between the 6 shows either Yosh or myself were at 4 of them!  One of the saturdays we had a wedding and Nana broke her arm…it was a mess!  But Taryn held it all together!

One of the shows I got to bring Ella. OMG she was in heaven! She LOVED it. Like loved it so much…we are still singing and listening to all the songs months later!! I loved having some Mommy/Ella time together too!

Yes she brought her barbie…which she had named “Gingy”…which is also her FAV in the show!

After the show we got our pictures with some of our favorite characters…and some of my students It was so awesome!

Owen LOVED it. He said he can’t wait for the next production…I was so tired I was thinking OH DEAR LORD! haha But I’m glad he loved it. Its a great program at ERHS and I’d be happy if Owen grew up and was a part of it all!

Wedding Bells

90% of my friends are married. But some of my friends are starting to have kids that are getting married age…crazy huh!?!? So we got to go to a wedding….and it was so much fun!

But let me rewind and explain that day…

Mom was suppose to be babysitting the kids.  Owen had 1 soccer game and 2 Shrek Musical performances that day and thankfully Taryn was helping us with him at Shrek

Well…around 10am Mom called me…she was on her way to Kaiser…she slipped and fell on some loose gravel while hiking the Claremont Loop. Oh SHIT!  Long story short she broke her arm/wrist….BAD.

I started to kinda panic because you can’t just NOT show up to a wedding you RSVP’d for. Thats $$ wasted. So we started calling babysitters. No luck until 7pm that evening.  And WOW I have great people in my life!!

We dropped the girls off at Taryn’s. Her Dad picked Owen up after the 2pm Shrek, they got dinner for him (and Addi), fed all my kids, got Owen back to his 7pm Shrek performance, Taryn brought the girls home, bathed them and got them ready for bed…babysitter showed up to put them to bed and Taryn brought Owen home after the show. What a lifesaver!!!!

So we still went to the wedding…with kids who knows where and with who knows. lol

Party Time!!! We were the table…friends of the brides parents…partier table! It was great!! Open Bar weddings are absolutely amazing!!! haha

And the photo booth shenanigans began…oh it was so funny!

BFF Time

I’m blessed with many best friends. I have made the best of friends in all phases of my life. My very first best friends are those that are still in my life to this day. Not many girls can say that about their elementary school besties!! Two of them are in different states…which is hard…and the one that is closest in distance is the one that probably is at the most different phase of her life.  BUT when we get together I have a sense of sisterhood. I don’t need to speak, she just knows…and I think she feels the same. This year she actually called me and asked to get together to celebrate my birthday…it was kinda special. You know when you get to a certain age people pretty much send a text or fb message saying Happy Birthday…phone calls are rare and special dates are rarer.  I had dinner plans with one group of friends so when Cindy called to ask to do a wine/paint night I was very excited!!
Cindy picked the date, the location, the activity and just told me to show up! THAT doesn’t happen very often…yeah maybe I’m a bit of a control freak, type A personality so I’m usually the planner.  This was nice.  And she picked a GREAT activity for us.

Purple Easel does destination nights. We went to Oggi’s and painted, drank and had fun!

We laughed and had a great time.  Does my city “skyline” look familiar to anyone?? Hint: its not in the United States.
