Adult Night Out

What's that? Adult night? I haven’t seen one of those in a LOOONNNGGG time!! Yes I’m blessed with having my mother around to let Yosh and I out on dates whenever we want.  So we do once a month dinner or a movie or whatever (pending her being in the country).  My mother has always supported me in loving my marriage and getting necessary time with my husband.  Sometimes with the craziness of life we forget what being a husband or wife is…its all Daddy and Mommy all the time.  So we try and be a “married couple” whenever we can!  But now with Maggie we are limited…I’m breastfeeding and don’t like being away from Maggie.  In extreme cases I’ve pumped, left a bottle and we all survive. But every mom knows…pumping sucks! haha I hate doing it unless I really need to. I know I have to do it…already have started pumping and storing for the dreaded day I have to return back to work.

Anyway…one of our great friends birthday was the day after Thanksgiving.  Matt was turning 39 which isn’t a milestone birthday BUT since it landed on Black Friday it was the perfect opportunity to get together for an adult night.  Its the first time in YEARS we have been able to get together without kids!  And it was fun!

Heather arranged an hour long Duffy Boat Ride around Newport Harbor at sunset…followed by dinner at The Crow Bar.

Heather and I don’t get out much…can you tell? haha jk

Yes I brought my selfie stick…and yes everyone laughed at me but I don’t care!

These girls have turned from being just “wives” of Yosh’s friends to some of my best friends! I truly love them so much!!

Dinner at The Crow Bar was interesting.  Fancy food. Small glasses of wine. WTH.  But it was a great night…to step outside our usual box. I didn’t love my food BUT I loved my company!

And to make this evening even better…we ended the night with some yummy Golden Spoon!

And this happened…

Thanksgiving

DSC_0668

Our turkey day was wonderful. Different but wonderful! Last year my sister-in-law hosted Turkey day at her house for the first time since moving back from New York.  Her house is PER-FECT for hosting family gatherings.  When Missy asked me what was easiest since we had a small baby I was happy to have Missy host again this year!

Rewind a few weeks…my father-in-law (who is suffering from Parkinsons) mentioned that traveling around is getting harder and harder on him.  So we decided to cut his traveling out of the day and brought Thanksgiving to them.

Missy did an AMAZING job of hosting while in someone else’s house!  She made A TON of food and brought it all over to her parents…eliminating any work for my in-laws.

 IMG_1513

She cooked it all at home and transported it. And she was amazing enough to not “make” me responsible for anything…talk about no pressure! Thank you! BUT I did a marvelous green salad, my infamous potato salad, chips & dip, cheese and meat platter and pies! haha I’m not one for cooking so all these were great. haha

We spent the day relaxing and playing…all very low key.  Since Owen and Ella (and Maggie of course) are the youngest we all took turns trying to keep them busy! haha

Ok lets be real…my kids wanted nothing to do with their parents…they LOVE their cousins Peyton and Bailey…and Uncle Chris is a good sport too which they totally love! So it was an afternoon of Connect 4, Monopoly, wrestling, etc.  Thanksgiving was actually chilly this year…so we kept the playing inside as much as we could.

Maggie watched and slept most of the day…

Turkey toes are the cutest…and she enjoyed her first Thanksgiving too!

The food was delicious…and I made sure to get a picture of Maggie and her first turkey!!
Its kinda a tradition…kinda.  Ella I did it with Ella’s first turkey…not so much with Owen!

IMG_1562 IMG_0116

The kids enjoyed their food.  I thought it was yummy as well.  Owen pretended to like apple cider just so he could drink something out of a fancy glass! haha That kid is hilarious.  Ella couldn’t stop “cheersing” with her capri-sun!

And then of course we did the family pictures…pictures we all will cherish forever.

I have to say it was pretty cool to celebrate a holiday in Yosh’s Redlands home house.  We haven’t done that in years!! Well…since we were married and started hosting most/all holidays.  That way we didn’t have to split our days and were able to be with both sets of parents!

5 grandkids on the Souza side….age difference is huge BUT that kinda makes it cool!  Peyton is old and mature enough to hold Maggie and me not have to worry about her. Bailey is old enough to watch the kids outside or wherever…its nice!  And my kids LOVE their cousins…regardless of what age they are!

After dinner, Ella changed into her cute “festive-wear” haha and we headed to Nana and Granda’s for dessert.

It was a wonderful day! And I can’t imagine next Thanksgiving when we’ll have a 7, 3 and 1 year old running around! yikes.

ps. And there was NO Black Friday shopping for this girl this year.  I took the year off because little Maggie Mae wouldn’t allow me out for too long.  #breastfeedingprobs

2 months

I can’t believe our little Maggie girl is already 2 months old as of November 23rd.

We officially do NOT have a newborn anymore…total sad face! That went by way to fast!  Maggie is officially in 3 month clothes and I’m finding it very difficult to pack away all the  newborn stuff.  I have it all in a rubbermaid…waiting…not sure for what but its there.  I know I just need to give it away to someone who needs girl newborn clothes but I’m having a hard time letting it go just yet!

On Maggie’s 2 month birthday we had a busy day…we had to make sure we got her pictures at home taken AND she had her 2 month well baby check-up!  These are her monthly pics. People say the last baby usually doesn’t have a baby book, doesn’t have lots of pictures of them, etc. i think its the other way around in this house.  Poor Owen is the one that has the least amount of cool cute shit.  Thank God he’s a boy and won’t probably give a hoot when he grows up.  BUT his Baby Book is done…like start to finish its complete. ((Patting myself on the back!))

Our little lady has already grown SO much!!  Will I last taking these monthly pics?? Who knows. But I DO know that month 3 we are in Ireland so we won’t be taking any of these exact ones since I won’t have my “props”. Oh well. Our monthly pictures at home are getting easier and easier. I know what I need and don’t waste time doing it. haha Lighting is important and making sure baby is fed and happy too!! Fussy babies don’t do well with all these little pictures!  When I go back to work in January it will be a bit harder to get these pictures of my girl since I’m not home during the time of the of day with the best light.  Eh..well work something out.

Kaiser scheduled her 2 month check up for exactly her 2 month birthday. I sat in the waiting room, just Maggie and I, (Owen at school and Ella with Nana) and watched some newborn parents bringing their fresh little ones in for their 5 day check.  They fussed about the car seat and their stroller wheels were hardly dirty. I got kind of sad thinking that those days are over…BUT then some crazy ass kids started running around the waiting room, my anxiety went through the roof and I was happy and laughing that some day I’ll miss this. And when I say crazy ass kids, I mean like the kind you see on movies. The kind that you don’t think are real! Their dad was getting flusters and embarrassed because he had ZERO control over the 2 little animals. It was horrible. Thankfully I didn’t have to wait long…I wouldn’t have been able to sit and watch them destroy the waiting area.

Our little chunker now weighs 11lbs 1.3oz which puts her in the 44th percentile.
and she is 22.5 inches long keeping her in the 52nd percentile.

She’s a healthy and happy little lady. And took her vaccinations like a champ. Yes she cried but she was tough!!

Of course I started wondering how Maggie measured up against my other two kiddos…so I went back into the baby books to see what their stats were at 2 months.

Owen
IMG_4734

June 2009 - When Owen was 6 weeks old he was projectile vomiting and we found out that he had a “common” issue called pyloric stenosis. I guess 1 out of 400 first born males have this issue…and to think we had NEVER heard of it before.
At 6 weeks 6 days Owen weighed 11lbs 2oz.
Kinda funny because he was the biggest I had at that time even with his vomiting issue.  I can’t imagine how big he would have been if he was keeping all his bottles in his belly!

At Owens 2 month check up he weighed 12lbs 11oz. in the 64th percentile.  and 24 inches in the 75th percentile.

This pic is the day he had his first set of shots at his 2 month well baby check-up.  I didn’t take any in the doc office…see 1st baby totally didn’t get all the same pics!

Ella
IMG_3289

April 2013 - Ella was a healthy little chunker at her 2 month well baby visit as well.

Ella weighed 10lbs 13oz in the 36th percentile and was 23 inches in the 63rd percentile.

Everyday we watch our Maggie and people make comments about who she looks like…and I don’t know.
