First Days Back

Our school year started back on August 10th this year…BUT us teachers have to go back earlier…on the 5th.
And since Nana is still in Ireland we had to send all 3 kids to Martha’s Daycare.  Such a difference a few years makes. I remember being so anxious and upset leaving my kids…not anymore! lol  For any of us…no myself, not the kids OR Martha.

Packed up all 3 kids and a million bags (food, clothes, breast milk, etc.) and out the door!

Love this picture…such a good big brother going and spending the day with his little sisters at Martha’s.

Then a few days later it was Owens first day of 2nd grade!! And ALL summer these little boogers have been up EARLY! Like still dark outside early!! And of course…first day back they were “so tired”.  Both came into our bed while we were getting ready and slept! wth.

Since I teach PE and my students don’t dress out or do much the first few days of school I was able to sneak away and bring Owen to school the first few days!

We were both a little anxious that morning…me probably more than him. I was going to be meeting with the principal that morning. Owen was placed in a class with another student whom he was terrified of.  This particular student bullied Owen all throughout kindergarten without me having any knowledge of it.  That was when his sleep-walking started…and now looking back I have realized that when Owen is anxious about something, he sleep walks.  So I contacted the prinipal, who didn’t response to my email or phone call. So the first morning of school I demanded a meeting with him.  I was so upset about the whole thing I became very emotional (gosh I hate being a woman sometimes).  Long story short the principal gave me some BS story about not being able to make a teacher switch until 10 days into the school year. I’m also a teacher in the district…I know that changes can be made…BUT I was going to try and let things sort themselves out.  I spoke with his new 2nd grade teacher and let her know of the situation. Things ended up working out. The child is controlled by this teacher and Owen ended up not wanting the change. He is still very uncomfortable around this student BUT he’s learning to deal…which is good.

Lets look back at old pics…

Summa Summa Summa Time

Our summer flew bye.  And we tried squeezing in as much stuff as we could before going back to work/school in early August.

Kind of a tradition to get to the beach with the Manleys before going back to work. They work in the same district as us so we have the same summer break…and start back the same day too.
Corona Del Mar was packed but the kids had a great time playing in the water, boogie boarding, catching sand crabs…all while Maggie just WASNT amused.  Poor Maggie Mae.

We warmed our pool up real good…and brought the big kids out for a night swim. Its fun watching both of them become such good little swimmers. Ella still has some work but shes getting there.

During the days we were a good mix of exhausted from the busy summer YET totally wanted to keep the summer feeling alive. We spent about 5 out of the 7 days a week in the pool here. Still saying it was the best investment.  This day I was also trying to get a cute picture of Maggie to put on her birthday invite…we were doing a Luau themed party so needed something cute!

We also got to ONE concert in the park this year! We left Daddy at home with Maggie, since she goes to bed so early and us “big kids”…enough the evening with the Gerke’s. We were kinda disappointed though when we realized they didn’t have the mini donut booth! Booooo

Our summer was amazing…and of course its NEVER long enough.  BUT blessed to have great jobs to go back to!
