You KNOW you are getting old when old polo players you coached start inviting you to their weddings!!! We have had a few polo girls (and boys) get married…and its always such a pleasure to be added to their guest list. I love to see how they have grown and matured but still love us! Usually they love Yosh…he seriously makes such an impact on his players lives. He teaches them to be great successful people as well as how to dominate in the pool! And it just so happens we had TWO weddings this month. One was a plane ride away in Davenport California (practically Santa Cruz) and one local reception in Corona.
Getting to get away for 2 nights without kids was amazing. We felt so fancy catching a flight to San Jose right after work. We rented a car and drove to Santa Cruz. it was so fun! Our first wedding was for a Roosevelt alumn, Kim. She was our goalie and her dad works with us as well. Her first day of polo I thought I was seriously going to have to jump in and save her. She turned out to be a KICK ASS goalie who even played for mine and Yosh’s college coach at Chaffey College!
We arrived to our hotel kinda late. Didn’t have baths to give, mouths to feed…it was beautiful! Next morning we got up and explored downtown Santa Cruz a bit. We didn’t have to be at our shuttle pick-up location until the late afternoon. yes I said shuttle pick-up location. This was SUCH a destination wedding, we couldn’t even park AT the venue!!
Our cool rental car!
Yosh realized that he could NEVER live in Santa Cruz. Its hippie central. I just took it all in! I remember playing at UC Santa Cruz when in college. After polo game we were showering and an older woman came in…and yelled at us for taking too long of showers and for stepping away from the water to grab shampoo. haha I’ll never forget it.
But we got ready and headed to the venue. Kim put SOOO much time into her wedding prep! Like it blows my mind. She made and brought in EVERYTHING for the wedding. They rented a huge property in Davenport. She said she wanted to get married in a foresty, woodsy type place. Well…I thought she did just that! It was the most magical, pinteresty wedding I have ever been too. Her dad helped with everything too! They brought in the rugs for the aisle, made the benches for the ceremony and tables, made EVERYTHING! It was crazy. She also didn’t let us take pictures during the ceremony…I about died not having my phone! haha
I respected her wishes and only took the pics AFTER! Didn’t really matter anyway. We were in the middle of NO WHERE and had ZERO cell service anyway. It was kinda cool too…we got to see a few of our old players but also Kim’s old college goalie coach was a girl I played with in college as well. So was fun catching up with her and her hubs.
The bar, alcohol, caterer, tables, chairs, booze, ice, high tables, EVERYTHING was brought in. Even the electricity to run everything off generators. It was crazy. And then the bartender didn’t show. But everything was sorted and worked out.
yep…even made the decor at the tables. (Kim’s poor bridal party were slave laborers! haha)
Seriously one of the most beautiful brides I have ever seen!! And the groom wasn’t bad on the eyes either
Father daughter dance…
Amanda is an old player like Kim is…but Amanda is now my colleague! She got a teaching job at ERHS and kinda took over my coaching position too!! Very very proud of all our graduates but this one has a little best place in my heart!
Kim’s Dad, Ray, is one of the first teachers I met at ERHS…and then she turned into one of our parents, then Booster member, then great friend!! He’s an awesome guy with the biggest heart.
With the Bride and Groom, Kim and Scott.

Theres our goalie Kim….
But one of my favorite pictures I took at Kim’s wedding was this one…
Its crazy that this young ladies went from zipped up polo suits to buttoning up wedding gowns…and I swear it feels like it happened over night. They girls aren’t our biological children, so I can only imagine what it will be like when our real kids grow up…BUT gosh it got me all emotional. And kinda feeling old damnit! And then we danced the night away in the middle of the forest. It was the weirdest thing.
Yosh and I may or may not have left the wedding, stopped at a liquor store and then went back to our hotel room, had a few more drinks and binge watch some MORE Game of Thrones. haha We are addicted and were getting through our episodes wanting more everytime!! haha
The next morning we met up with ANOTHER old Mustang in her new hometown of Campbell…which was on our way from Santa Cruz to San Jose Airport. Amanda came too…and it was an awesome lunch, catching up with these girls who are real grown ups now!
Then a few weeks after Kim’s wedding we had ANOTHER old polo players wedding reception. Not a mustang, but a husky. Yosh coached at Centennial before Roosevelt and Amy was one of his first players! She got married in a BEAUTIFUL private intimate ceremony in Cambria, Ca. and then partied at her mom’s a few weeks later. It was awesome. But we had kids there so our partying was cut short!
Amy and her Hubby Breck with her high school polo coaches. Imagine Yosh and Joel beinging your kids coaches…oh dear lord! haha
