I’m not exactly the biggest church-goer….I often times call myself a pretend Catholic. Yes I was raised Catholic…by a VERY faith filled, spiritual mother…I sometimes say she was a nun in her in past life! But we went to church almost every Sunday, whether we liked it or not, until we got to high school. Then extra-curricular activities (softball!) got in the way of me making my confirmation and I now kinda regret letting that slip away from me. BUT yeah…maybe someday I’ll do some adult CCD classes…maybe. I find the Catholic Church extremely frustrating. When I was calling different church’s about having the kids christened they made it damn well near impossible. You have to take these classes, at these crazy times for this many months WITH both godparents present, show proof of baptism, etc. etc. Don’t they want to accept as many babies/children into the church as possible? I feel like it should be an open door…not something that is made SO hard to do!! Irish priests ask no questions…if you want your child christened they do it with open arms. I love that!
Anyway…I was baptized and believe it or not Yosh is also a baptized Catholic. So we felt very strong about making sure our kids were also baptized. My mother and grandmother would be extremely proud…and so we made it happen. Owen was baptized during our July 2010 trip to Ireland…and we hit 2 birds one stone this trip with the christening for both the girls!
I’m so happy that all 3 of my kids were baptized in the same beautiful church that I was baptized in in 1982!
Owen was baptized in July 2010…it was a great day. But man I remember trying to keep his little ass quiet and sitting during that was horrible. He was 15 months old and at a rough stage for that. But we got it done.
And my two little ladies had their special day on December 30th!
We had our close family only and the church all to ourselves. It was so nice!
Not a peep out of either girl…they both sat and it was like they were listening to what the priest had to say! It was cute. And a totally different experience than what we had with Owen.
Nana crocheted both of their blankets too!
Ella’s godparents are Yosh’s sister and bro-in-law who obviously couldn’t make it to the christening. So I asked Caoimhe and Caolan (who is my godson) to stand in and be Ella’s godparents by proxy. Its kind of like she has 2 sets…which is super awesome. And Maggie’s godparents are Denise and John! And Owens are Alan and Catherine. We are lucky to have great people in our kids lives!!
Family pictures! Then and Now….
Back in 2010 this was Nanny with all her Great Grandchildren…
Makes me laugh because we thought it was hard to get those 4 to look at the camera and smile! Imagine just worrying about 4 kids now!! It would be a breeze.
But we went from 4 to 9 great grandchildren…wow some of us were busy during the past 5 years!!
I love seeing our family grow!! More smiles, more laughs, more tears…I love it.
It was a beautiful day…followed by some finger foods and a few drinks at the local small hotel in town, the Mayfly. It was nice. Ella kept saying “but its my special day mom!” That girl knows how to get her way…!! haha
And I was happy when Nanny said to me “I have met Maggie…and they are christened…I can die happy!” Oh no…don’t be playin’ girl. No dying out of you! haha
