St. Stephen’s Night

All I have to say is OH how times have changed!!

When I was younger, St. Stephens Night (December 26th) was THE night to go out and go nuts!  I remember being up on tables dancing for hours with my counsins and friends. Standing all night socializing.  Not getting home until the wee hours of the morning with a bag of chips under my jacket to keep me warm for the walk home. And of course, having a very sore head the next morning!

This year we decided to head into town early…we wanted to get seats! haha (Red Flag #1 that we are getting old…we went into town before 10pm).  We went to Bourke’s pub where it was standing room only.  Had 2 drinks and then decided to go to the next pub where a band and DJ would be playing…again heading up early so we could get a seat! (Red Flag #2…when you walk into a quiet pub and are HAPPY to be able to get a seat and table and able to talk for a bit without the craziness around you…you are getting OLD!)

Once the pub starting filling up I looked around and laughed to myself. I knew hardly NO ONE in that place! Everyone there were kids…or they looked like it! I also laughed because I realized we were THOSE old people, sitting up at the table all night…I used to talk about “those” old people and now I am one of them!

With Catherine being prego and me still breastfeeding the night was pretty damn tame. I wish all these drinks were mine…but totally not the case.  I would have a few West Coast Coolers and then Bernie would text me to let me know when maggie was up having a bottle so I’d know that I was then cut off. Time to let my body filter the alcohol out (the tiny bit of alcohol that was IN my body!) West Coast Coolers are like Wine Coolers…I felt like I was in high school again and just wasting the calories since it wasn’t having any affect on me at all. haha

There is a popular local band called Dopler and they were playing that night. I loved it. They covered all cover songs…old ones, new ones…everything. They even played my request for some Maggie May by Rod Stewart!

It was a packed house…I was very grateful for being old and having the sense to get there early and get myself a seat!!! I’m not able to be standing, dancing all night like I used to.

I will have to say though…from all the crazy nights I have had in Cruises (from holidays, birthdays, weddings, etc.) I have NEVER see him give out plastic glasses! Now thats a first!
