When in Ireland during the summer months you have to be prepared to bundle up like a California winter. They have such crap weather most of the time…but you can’t like a little rain, wind and cold temps scare you away from doing stuff. But you know when its dry out, you run out and try and get whatever you need to be done then!
We headed out for a day at Graune PetFarm. My kids LOVE animals so I knew they’d all love it. It wasn’t far from our house and so we made a day out of it!
Feeding and petting…my kids were in heaven!
These are the places and things my kids will remember when they grow up. I remember being a kid in Ireland one summer and visiting Westport House…they had a huge slippy slide…yeah. I don’t remember all the beautiful scenary as a kid…just the fun stuff like playgrounds and my cousins.
And I really love seeing my kids warm up to their Aunt and Uncle…yes they aren’t really their aunt and uncle BUT its the closest thing they got on my side of the family!
Only in Ireland would they have a HUGE indoor playground at a petting zoo!! haha But when it starts raining you rally up the troops and let them run some energy off inside!
While we were out and about we met up with Nana and Nanny at Knock Shrine. Which is a VERY holy town, where years ago supposedly the Virgin Mary, Saint Joseph and John the Evangelist appeared in 1879! Catholics from all over the world come to visit Knock Shrine…and I think it might be one of my Nanny’s favorite places in all the world. Shes a VERY religious woman, as many are of her generation. She was in her element to have 5 of her great grandkids there for a visit.
And another “thing of her generation” is to give little kids money. She was excited to give each kid 10 euros to spend in one of the tourist religious shops. Oh the decisions that had to be made. There were no bibles or holy medals bought..BUT figet spinners, My Little Pony, Doctor kits and other non-holy things were purchased. But the kids were pumped.
This is a wall that supposedly the Virgin Mary actually touched and blessed it. Ella was excited to get her hands on it for some reason.
Then in to a smaller chapel next to the big church we had to go in for a prayer and to light a few candles.
This is a picture of the big church…and I actually have never been inside. When we were there at day mass had just let out and it was a mad house. So one of these years I’ll get to take a peek inside.
And I felt like my mother collecting holy water to bring back home with us!
Its one of those places that you’d think the kids wouldn’t like but they all actually love the visit. They say their prayers (that nana teaches them), they get to spend money on stuff….yep keeps them happy forsure!
Another fun experience for Owen was he got to go to soccer practice and play with his cousin Jayden’s team. Owen’s played 1 season of soccer and still learning BUT being around all these really experienced players that are his age was fun for him! Yosh loved getting to watch too…I had to stay home with girls that evening but got lots of videos from Yosh.
