Operation Elf on the Shelf…

Last year I remember seeing people post on facebook about this “Elf on the Shelf” thing that my friends were doing with their kids. But we were headed to Ireland for Christmas (and Owen was a bit young!) so I knew that it wasn’t going to happen for us quite yet.
So I was pumped this year when I started seeing everyone posting about their little elf's.  I was worried that I had missed the starting date…but soon realized I can start my Elf on The Shelf when I wanted. I’m not one for decorating toooo early. I think December 1st is a good “start xmas day” around here. I had polo on December 1st so our Elf was starting today, December 2nd.

Yosh got up with Owen…so I could stage the elf’s arrival (yes I should have done it last night but was TOO exhausted from coaching 3 polo games).  I told Owen that something had showed up for him…and was by the computer and I noticed him while checking emails…

Owen was NOT too sure about this little thing. He was confused…and I tried to start reading him the book. And of course my child was scared of the elf and NOT interested in the story!

Operation “Elf on Shelf”……FAIL!!!!!

I then told Owen that Santa had sent me an email…with a little message…

He watched…eyes glued to the computer screen. It was cute! The messaged ended and Owen said “I DO NOT want to watch that again!!” haha (scared…again!)

Strike TWO Mom!

So we dropped it at that…I quickly explained to Owen about the elf, whom he named “Elfie”…how he has magical powers so you can’t touch or play with him and flies to chat with Santa every night about Owen’s behavior.  Over the course of the day Owen has asked questions about How Elfie flies and why he has to leave…so I think he’s starting to buy in!

Actually this evening Owen wouldn’t listen to me about cleaning up toys…so I said “Ok I’m gonna go tell Elfie” And Owen almost sh*t himself “NO! I’ll help….see!” haha So this little man Elfie is gonna be my good friend for following directions the next 22 days!

So we’ll see how this fun little tradition goes…I’m excited and I know Owen will EVENTUALLY like it…haha…right?!?
