For the past 10 years that I have been with Yosh we have gone to Disneyland on Christmas Eve…and started that as our tradition since 2002. I remember being there when we were young and dating and talking about bringing our kids to Disney to enjoy our day…how exciting it would be. Funny thing…since we have had Owen…we’ve only done our Christmas Eve at Disneyland trip once…haha. It always SOUNDS better before hand. Last year we were out of the country for the Holidays…and this year we don’t have a great excuse as to why we didn’t go. I told Yosh we needed to change the day from the 24th to the 23rd…that way we could always be home the night before Santa and have plenty of time and energy to “prep” for his arrival (cookies, carrots, etc.) but we’ll shoot to get to Disneyland December of next year!
THIS Christmas Eve we spent it together…JUST us 3…our small family unit. Which oddly enough we don’t do very often. Most places we go or things we do we usually go with or invite friends along. But Christmas Eve was going to be about us…and I have to say…it was nice. Started off by going out to visit Uncle Paul at Riverside National Cemetery.
Owen has been here many times…but he's getting to the age where he asks questions like “where IS Heaven?” “Why can’t Uncle Paul come down"?” “How do we get up there to see him?” So Yosh and I explain…the best way we can. I never want Owen to NOT know he had an Uncle Paul…but I dread the day when I have the adult conversation with him on the details to this tragic event that changed my life and my family forever. We have plenty of time before we get into those details though…Owen will have to be old…way old to understand what we’ll have to tell him. But after our (my) tears…we always wash them away with some “duck time”…Owen loves watching these ducks.
Came home and built a gingerbread house (which Yosh THOUGHT was a great idea at the time of purchase…but wanted to hang himself while trying to put it together). I sat back and laughed…and took pictures of him! It was funny. Owen and I had the easy part of just decorating with the candies…which was easy and fun!
Then bath, jammies and we got ready for Santa. We let Owen stay up a little later…didn’t want any issues of getting him to bed…didn’t have the energy to deal with it. Owen was thrilled to leave chocolate milk and cookies out for Santa…with some carrots for the reindeer! “Elfie” waited with Santa’s treats…to catch a ride back to the North Pole with Santa for the year…Owen said he sad good-bye and told Elfie “you need to go back to your Mom and Santa…to make toys for the good kids”
I found it so cute that every other post on instagram and fb on xmas eve was of all my friends kids’ Santa treats. All us parents are so excited for our kids…makes me giggle.
Merry Christmas Eve everyone…Can’t wait to see Owen Christmas morning…the delight in his eyes will be priceless!!!
