When we booked our 3 week vacation to Ireland I wanted to take a mini-adult only vacation within our vacation. Ideally we wanted to see Spain or Portugal…flying within Europe is pretty cheap so I thought it would be awesome. We craved seeing the sun and warmth BUT those locations weren’t feasible (THIS time anyway…we’ll get there someday!).
But a trip to Liverpool, England fit in our budget AND more importantly our schedule. My cousin Alan and his wifey Denise came with us and it was an AWESOME trip! Funny enough we booked the dates and I realized AFTER the fact that we were gonna be in England for our 8 year wedding anniversary. Score.
So we caught a 50minute flight on RyanAir from Knock (which is only 20 minutes from Foxford) to Liverpool. We got to load the plane by walking up the stairs and straight on to that biatch…I felt like the First Lady or The Beatles or something!!! So cool!
Arriving in England I was so excited to see these cool black taxi’s. They were so cute! It was like something you’d see on a movie!!! We spent the first evening checking out the part of the city where our hotel was and eating dinner followed by a few drinks. Nothing crazy…keeping it mellow. Our hotel was located perfectly. A 15 pound taxi right from the airport and it put us in walking distance of the city. Very affordable and it was awesome! We were trying to behave ourselves so we could enjoy a busy day of site-seeing the next day!! We ate at Nando’s…which was like a flavored rotisserie chicken restaurant. Walked around Albert Dock, had some drinks at The Pumphouse because the sun was shining and it was beautiful. And ended our evening in O’Neils Irish Pub. Yes we were in England but find ourselves in an irish place…makes me laugh.
Next morning we headed to the Anfield (Liverpool soccer teams stadium) Tour (see next post!!). It was pretty cool. I wasn’t super excited about it but was going for Yosh. He’s a Liverpool fan so he was in heaven. It was a great way to spend our actual anniversary.
After the stadium tour we ate some yummy lunch at T.G.I. Fridays. Pretty much like our Fridays…except a bit pricier! 84 pounds for 4 people…converts to $144 for lunch!!!! lol Holy Moly!
Denise wanted to shop…I did NOT. So we parted ways. Yosh and I did some site seeing before we met up for the evening. I loved how this city had a mix of modern buildings right next to OLD OLD buildings. It was cool!
We got to the Liverpool museum with only 20 minutes left before closing. That was a bummer because it seemed like we could have spent LOTS of time in there.
I made it in to a picture!! hahaha
Then we wandered the city…not sure what we were always looking at. We asked a local woman about the huge building with the “birds” on the top…she told us that the “birds” were actually called Liva Birds…and they were mythical creatures that the city got its name from Liva…Liverpool! lol Good to know!
And the huge building used to house all the steamline boating companies. Pretty cool the steamline that was in charge of THE Titanic was in that building. They had a little memorial for it too!
Look…there I am again…I’m always behind the camera…very rarely in front of it on vacations.
That night we visited the hotel bar (of course! haha)…
Then headed to The Cavern. The underground pub/club where The Beatles started! It was so cool!!! The feeling we got inside was indescribable. Walking down the 3+ flights of stairs (yes down…like underground…it was a little freaky at first!). But once you get down there and there is a stage area where a cover band is playing…I got the chills.
The place hasn’t changed much in the 50 years since The Beatles were playing there. I think thats what makes it super awesome. You get “the feeling”….I don’t know. Its hard to explain.
Continued our Monday night in SoHo nightclub. Showed Denise what an Asian hooker looked like…met some American college girls in the toilets (from Long Beach! haha) And finished the evening with dinner at 2am in Burger King! Classy
Liverpool was such a fun getaway! Denise and Alan were saying that it was easier and cheaper to get to Liverpool than it is to spend a few days in Dublin. I KNOW they will be going back!!!
