Tooth Fairy

Why are teeth SUCH a huge deal?

Before kids I never paid much attention to teeth and their TOTAL importance. When you have a toddler you worried about busted chins or foreheads…stitches…broken bones! You, or should I say, I never thought about teeth!  UNTIL…this happened back in March 2012…you all remember this…

He took a spill down the stairs that resulted in stitches in his chin and almost losing his front tooth. We ended up “saving” the tooth with a mini pulpotomy  (root canal) to keep the tooth in. We know the fall resulted in the tooth dieing because it turned gray within the month…sad day BUT it coulda been worse.

Until recently its been just kinda ugly but doing it’s purpose. But lately he’s been complaining of pain sometimes when drinking cold drinks. We asked our amazing dentist what we should do and he said that it might be time for the tooth to come out.

Talk about mixed emotions. You don’t want your kid to be in pain BUT his little tooth being gone is sad too!  We kinda prepped him, he was ALL FOR IT. He wanted the toothfairy to visit so he was good to go.

I was so sad taking these pictures…last ones with all his baby teeth.

I sat in the front office and waited for him. I have learned for our trips to the pediatric dentist that our kids do SOOOO much better for others. Me being in the room with him only makes him more emotional and easier to cry.
But waiting up there was hard!! I was sweating, getting dizzy and cringing whenever I heard him. It was so hard! But when the nitrous kicked in, it turned kinda comical to listen to his little drunk ass. He only cried a bit when Dr. Matty “put his finger in his mouth” (great that he has NO clue that he actually got a shot!)

But my brave little man walked out after it was done, gaze in his mouth and gave Matty a hug and was totally ok! Thank God he didn’t inherit the fear of the dentist like his Mama and Nana. He’s the bravest little patient ever.

Once the numbing wore off he was a bit sore BUT nothing some Tylenol couldn’t help. He can’t keep his little tongue out of new opening in his mouth…its so funny. Whenever he talks with a lisp he kinda giggles…he thinks he’s so cool.

We wrote a note to the toothfairy…so she would let Mommy keep the tooth for his baby book…and what do you know that nice fairy left the tooth with a crisp $5 bill. This morning Owen helped complete his baby book with his tooth! Baby Book is done…5th birthday….first tooth….and thats pretty much it! How freaking sad is that. I’m gonna add a pic of his first day of school but yeah…its done. boooohoooooo.

So now we have a toothless kid….his adult teeth aren’t anywhere NEAR ready to come in soo yeah…he’ll be like this for a while. lol joy!  Yosh said he actually looks like a real boy and I swear his voice got deeper. lol Next will be facial hair.
