Owen received his first pair of “wellies” (aka rainboots) from his Great-Auntie Majella…and they seem to have taken on the role of Leprechaun hunting shoes.
My dad told him the other night that there aren’t any bears in the dark but Leprechauns might live in dark places. (For some odd reason Owen has been telling us whenever we’d go somewhere in the dark “shhhh the bears are sleeping” ?? odd right? not sure where he got the idea of bears??) So the other day Bernie and Liam took the 2 boys out the back of Alan’s house to go looking for some frogs…that little excursion turned into a HIKE around Summerhill looking for Leprechauns.
No such luck in the frog department…so they went wandering around for cats…
This, my friends, is “turf”….this is the end product from an Irish bog (which is kinda like a dark, swampy field). Turf is used like the same way coal would be…in ranges or fireplaces.
And just beyond my dad here is my parents field…which is directly across the rode from my cousin Alan's home. Obvious it needs plowing and stuff since its so over-grown but it goes a few acres back and that will be the location of my parents retirement home. Hopefully they never end up moving b/c I don’t think I could function w/o them living near me!
This is the “car path” I mentioned before…the way to get up to my Aunt and Cousins homes in Summerhill…and soon to be the way up to the Gallagher Retirement Residence! lol nice small road huh?!?
The walk continued w/o me…I was freezing and the boys were enjoying themselves so much!! Mom and Dad had fun on their little adventure…Owen told me they found Leprechaun houses (which were REALLY old homes/sheds with little low doorways, that were used for holding animals and butchers and stuff back many many years ago) but the Leprechauns weren’t home…they were out shopping! haha (his words!) He said they’re going to go back to see if they are home next time!
Prior to this LONG walk with my parents, Jayden & Owen had an awesome time at an indoor kiddie place called “Funster”
Someone in this country finally realized that since it rains over 300 days out of the year they need to find places for mommies to bring kids before mommies loose their load!!! haha This place was pretty cool. Irish Moms are so different…they came and sat…drank their tea and coffee, chatting with friends while the kids just ran crazy. And i’m talking kids the same age as Owen and younger…just wandering around this place alone and having fun. haha And of course my needy child not leaving our side, NEEDING Daddy to climb, crawl and play with him the whole time. Even if I wanted him to go run around and find friends he’d NEVER do it. But thats our cautious Owen!
What a great day for the kiddies…you would think that my child would have been tuckered out that night…full nights sleep for all???? NOPE! He was up quite a bit that night. Owen is still sooooo stuck on cali time!! But I THINK we’re moving in the right direction, last night he slept from 11:20pm till 8:45am. Its been a relaxing week…but now with Christmas this weekend…then my besties wedding next week…things are going to start picking up around here! Pretty exciting!
