Many people already know, but October is Breast Cancer Awareness month! So so many women are affect by this horrible disease each year, and it seems like everyone knows someone that has had breast cancer…either they won their battle, or were laid to rest being a fighter! My mother was diagnosed with Breast Cancer back in July 2004. At the time I never realized just how big of a deal it was…you know my Mother…always down playing everything. And maybe I didn’t worry about it b/c a) I was naïve about the disease and b) I KNEW my mother was going to beat it…no doubt in my mind. I can’t more panicked NOW thinking about her going through that, than I did when she actually WAS going through it. This is my beautiful mother (and much younger looking father) back in November of 2004. She was only 5 weeks into her fight…but she was amazing the whole way through!
Mother and I have participated in many many Breast Cancer events since her battle…from our very first “3Day 60 mile walk” (which was by far the most amazing experience I’ve ever shared with my mom), the 40 mile Avon Walk, Half Marathons and some 5ks here and there…BUT the event we did this weekend was so much fun!!! Our favorite Zumba instructor, Kim Jenkins, put on a FABULOUS fundraising event…Party in Pink Zumbathon. It was a 2 hour Zumba event, with some guest instructors and tons of raffle prices. It was $20 a ticket and $1 raffle tickets, with over 100 donated raffle prizes.
For this event Mom choose to Dance in honor of her cousin Edelle. She lives in England is currently in the middle of her battle with Breast Cancer.
Mom’s personally decorated shirt and the Big Screen @ at the event…Go Edelle!
Mom and I getting ready to head to the Zumbathon!
The Room at Mavericks Volleyball Club was FULL of women excited to Zumba for a cause!! It was very amazing! There was donated DJ services, photography services, videography services…everything was top class!
I unfortunately am still in my non-weight barring cast…so I was stuck watching from the sidelines. Very upsetting…but I actually had a lot of fun watching everyone enjoy themselves so much!
But just from shakin’ my arms around, helpin’ Brandy with the raffle numbers and trying to take pictures I was sweatin’!! haha How pathetic huh?!?
I loved watching Mom enjoy herself while exercising so much.
These are the pictures and stuff I submitted for the Zumbathon…love my Mama!
Brandy & Jenn helped Kim organize the evening…and they did a great job! And KIM was the amazing lady to put everything together! Thank you Kim!
((**sidenote: Jenn was recently diagnosed with stage 2 melanoma…please keep her and her family in your prayers!!! She’s a fighter so I KNOW she’ll be victorious!))
We surely love us some Kim!!!
This is the group of strong ladies that made it through the full 2 hours of Zumba (a lot of people had already left at this point…so this is just the remaining people)
But the night was awesome…already can’t wait for next years Zumbathon when I’ll be able to actually participate!!
Mother and I then went and enjoy ourselves a celebratory margarita!
