June 6th…Owen’s very first day of swim lessons!
Parent & Me @ Eleanor Roosevelt High!!
Being born with parents who both were swimmers really puts the pressure on poor Owen to be a water baby! He’ll love the water whether he likes it or not. haha But seriously he will. wink wink. So of course we HAD to start those swim lessons at the first opportunity we could! Our high school has a swim program, which is connected with our high schools swim team that we coach, called the Eastvale Eels.

The Eels offer year-round swim camp/club and during the summer they offer all different levels of swim lessons. I enrolled Owen and myself into the first session of Parent & Child lessons which were from June 6th to June 16th. Owen started off pretty timid, which is just how Owen is about everything…but by the end he was adventurous and loved every minute of it.
Owen learned to kick kick kick, paddle like a turtle (which was the toy he loved playing with during lessons), blow bubbles under water, play Ring Around the Roses and dunk underwater and look for mermaids and hold on to the wall for dear life!
Parent & Me Class in session!!
At one stage Owen said to me…”Mommy you kick”….so I treaded water while he would kick with me. And he said to me “Mommy you kickin’….good job…high five” At this point I was cracking up laughing…I asked him “Is this Mommy's swim lesson or Owen’s swim lesson?” and confidently he responded “Mommy's Swim Lesson!” My child is such a little character…wonder where he gets that from!
And what made the lessons a little bit more fun was the fact that Owens buddy from daycare Eden was there too (and her Mommy of course, whom I work closely with at school!)
During lessons Owen also made friends with Chelsea, and her daddy is also a teacher at our school. Owen was amazed how Chelsea would go under water and fetch the rings (man that girl was fearless…trying to surf on the kickboard, jumping right in, dunking under water…she was crazy).
Little Mustangs playing together Was pretty cool!

Whenever Owen walked on deck all the swim instructors would swoon over him…and he’d love every minute of it!!
I will say that these past 2 weeks of having to commit to going to swim lessons was really hard. Gave me a glimpse into the future of having lots (ok maybe just 2-3 total..who knows) of kids needing to be taxi’d all around town for different functions and teams. Oh dear its going to be hard. I don’t know how parents like the Paterson’s do it :/
Deep down its actually pretty exciting…Owens getting to the age where he can be involved in organized activities…another example of how much he’s growing up before my eyes.
