When I was younger and would visit Ireland we were in the pub A LOT. It would be to have a few quiet drinks or crazy fun nights out, either way we’d get our butts into a pub…and frequently. haha Now that we come to Ireland with kids, my pub visiting days are practically over.
My cousin and uncle go into town for a drink or 2 a few times a week…thats their norm and since Yosh was on holiday they went more. So Yosh was at the pub a lot…most nights…and thats ok. Also in my adult years I’m not able to be drinking every night. My gut size doesn’t like it.
But we did get a few nights out…and it was so nice to get out and let loose. One night we got out with just my cousin and wife. Just for a few hours into their local, Bourke’s. Alan’s friend owns it…and can be either the quiet weekday enivronment…OR has live music and is wedged environment too!
Thanks again joby…ps my family were SUPER embarrassed whenever I busted out my phone for pics!! heehee. They’ll appreciate it all one day….right haha
When my cousin Derek arrived from Philly we HAD to have a adult night again…it was another fun night! Mom was excited for us and made us pose before leaving the house!
Met up with more family in Bourke’s. Its great to get out and have adult conversation without being interrupted every 2 minutes from a little person NEEDING something. Love my kids, but love some adult time as well.
Everyone was making comments about Yosh’s shirt…like EVERYONE. Every person that saw the Yank coming into the pub with that bright flowery shirt…oh man does Yosh love the attention (even from the old women!)
ps. This pics of Yosh was taken after 11pm…crazy how bright it still is outside huh!?!?
My aunt Majella is also my Godmother and total a fav. Shes so fun and spunky! I love her.
Yosh with 2 of my cousins..Derek and Alan.
After having a few, we decided to see what was happening in the pub next door. It was PACKED (in the front bar…which means all the old people). There was a group of people playing traditional Irish music. It was so cool. And even though it was PACKED…there were some older couples up dancing too!
Watching them play and all the people dancing and chatting (some even about Yosh’s shirt! haha) It gave me the chills. It was what every American pictures when they think visiting Ireland. It was pretty cool.
And our favorite part was seeing my bestie Catherine and her Dad, Pa. Hes such a great guy…and we love bumping into him in town
I’ve been friends with this girl since the summer of 1997. When I was in Ireland for 10 weeks…she was a friend of a friend at the time of meeting BUT has grown into being one of my closest friends!! I love her…
So a few nights out…not too crazy but it was still great times!!
We also decided this would be the year that we brought the kids into the pub for a bit. My American kids have no clue what a pub is…or what it entails being “in the pub”. The Irish kids know. Some Irish kids are allowed into the pub with their parents on a regular basis. My cousins kids only get into the pub on special occasions (weddings, baptisms, festivals, etc.). So we thought it would be fun to bring them into Bourke’s for a few hours…it was funny.
We were hoping to get an evening where Bourke’s had some live music…but since we were tight on time we brought them in and there wasn’t much going on. Kids got soda’s and tayton (chips)…
Makes me laugh to see the kids up on at the bar…chit chatting…only 10 more years before Owen and Jayden can legally be up there….YIKES. Time slow down please.
Maggie loved it too! (she was drinking water from a glass with a straw)
Out the back of Bourke’s is totally cute. Usually do to weather they don’t get to enjoy it much BUT there wasn’t rain that evening and the kids were getting antsy…so they played outside for a bit.
The River Moy at its finest. And see that bridge over there…I better NEVER find my kids “under the bridge!”
I can’t wait to recreate all these kid pub pictures in years to come!!
