We tried to find fun, kid friendly, localish things to do to keep our kids happy. Its hard when you are rolling around with 8 kids, 6 adults…BUT we found a few things. And they are things we have NEVER done and I’m TOTALLY doing again!
Belleek Woods is only like 30 minutes away from Foxford. And they have created it into a Fairy Forest. They have all these hidden fairy doors everywhere. The kids LOVED it…and I’m not going to lie…I freaking totally loved it too!
The best part was listening to the kids. All saying their piece about where the fairies were, some terrified, others OVERLY curious. It was awesome.
Inside the forest was SUPER cool too. The tree’s look fake, with the green moss all the way up the trunks. The huge branches gave us shelter from the wind and cold and it was so beautiful!!
The forest had a trail/hike that went through the forest. Many people jog, or walk their animals through it. But its scenic and beautiful. Part of it is along the river in Ballina and its beautiful
There was a pond there as well with ducks, which was great until my kids started trying to feed them rocks.
By the end of this lovely walk it was past Maggie’s naptime and she was turning into a nightmare before our eyes. So we had to get going. Oh the joys of a screaming toddler.
They also have a worry rock. Kids are to place their hands there, think about their worries and the fairies magic take all their worries away. Ella had to REALLY think about what worries she had. She closed her eyes REALLY tight…it was so funny!
Our group picture…thanks to the joby again!
Another day we headed to Westport to ride bikes along the Greenway. It was coming to the end of our trip so our choice of days were pretty limited. Of course the day we planned to go didn’t have the most ideal weather BUT we went for it.
The day started with a few sprinkles…but we pushed through. The daddies had to pull some kids in buggies…Owen and Riley biked themselves…and poor Carmel had a broken foot so she was trying to survive as well. We biked about 2.5 miles out…took some pictures and then biked the 2.5 miles back. By the time we got back Maggie was SCREAMING, it was pouring…it was good times.
The time we were making the decision to continue to turn back…the trail goes all the way to the next town over and then has shuttles for people that don’t want to ride back. We were working on crazy kids, hunger and the weather. So we decided to head back. Hoping that next time we go, we can get a good day and do the whole thing.
All the kiddos out for a snack break!
Group shot…thanks joby!
Daddy was excited to use his chest strap GoPro holder for this ride. So we have lots of weird pictures and video. haha
You can see the water drops on the camera as we continued. And Maggie was getting MORE and MORE angry. I had NO clue until we got back to the shop that it was because the mud and water that was coming off Yosh’s back wheel was flying into her face. Poor thing!
Both of these places were super fun and easy! Can’t wait to get back and do it again!
