In my office at work the other day a few of us were talking about holidays. Some of them thought that Valentines day was dumb and shouldn’t be celebrated (its a “hallmark holiday”). I said I think all holidays should be celebrated…why not…doesn’t hurt any! One of my co-workers said “if valentines is the only day you do something nice for your spouse and say I love you….then you are going to end in a divorce!”
Well I kinda feel the same way as Mother’s Day!! If Mothers Day is the only day that you treat mama’s nicely then…its going to end up all bad!!!
I want my children to know that we should treat women and our mama’s special EVERYDAY…not just one day of the year. Mom’s are special people, and I’m not simply saying this because I’m the mama and think I should be spoiled everyday….because that just isn’t even possible. BUT the idea of treating women we love with respect, loyalty, affection, etc. is something that should happen all year long!
My mother’s day celebrations started a few days ago when I received a box from my mama in Ireland…
It was filled with my favorite bacon fries, chocolates for the kids and a beautiful necklace for me too! My mama knows what makes this mama happy!! haha I knew Mom was going to be gone for Mothers Day so I got her new charms for her origami owl necklace before she left and the rest will be sent when it arrives here.
On the Friday before Mother’s Day Owen’s teacher had a Mother’s Day Tea. It was adorable. She did SO good teaching our kids how to treat their Mom’s with love. It started with each scholar coming out to get us from outside…Owen linked arms with me and escorted me to my seat. There he had all the pretty treasures that he had been working on for me. Paintings, poems, flowers, etc While we waited for other Mom’s he was instructed to make sure to get my drink order and keep me comfortable. He serviced me a plate of yummy treats and a beverage.
It was really cute because Mrs. Perez had the scholars make a special Thank You card…she called on each kid and they had to share out loud ONE thing they were thankful for. Owen choose to share that he was thankful that I washed his clothes and was the #1 mom. I almost cried!
Then the scholars got up and sang us 2 songs. “What Can I Give You” and “Five Pretty Mommies”. Hilarious and adorable! In this picture Owen is standing between 2 of his besties (they are twins) and I wanted their mom to be able to get them on video without having my Owen in the middle. BUT he didn’t move…sorry Lindsey.
That day I just so happened to have had Nana’s car…so Owen sits in the middle. I’m used to having him in the 3rd row, far away from me, but in this car he’s RIGHT THERE. I looked back and saw him asleep. Snoozing after school. Seven years old and this boy still needs his naps!! But this day he looked SO old…
When did this happen…how is he growing so old!?!?
Ella and Maggie also had a little celebration at daycare too…it was Martha’s birthday so she had a pajama party all day. They had donuts, popcorn and movies and seemed to have a great day! The best part was she secretly had the kids make mother’s day gifts too!! So all 3 kiddo’s made handprint gifts for me. I love them!
Tough getting 3 kids with 3 gifts in one picture….holy hell!! Maggie wanted to eat her gift, then she wanted to eat Owen’s gift, and Ella just laughed the whole time.
