We visited Legoland in the summer of 2013 with friends. It was fun but I didn’t find it as cool as Disneyland. Owen was in to Lego’s then and to this day, he is STILL into Lego’s. They are like kid-crack…expensive kid-crack! A few months ago Owen was on to me about staying in the Legoland Hotel. He saw “Evan on Youtube” stayed there on vacation and Owen said it was the coolest hotel ever and we HAD to stay there. So I asked him 6th birthday party OR Legoland Hotel??? The smart kid picked the Legoland Hotel. I figured we’d spend close to that for a birthday party when it was all said and done anyway…so I didn’t mind spending the ridiculous amount of money for one night in a hotel.
We arrived around 10am on the Thursday. Checked-in knowing that our room wouldn’t be ready but wanted them to know we were there and waiting on the room. When we walked into the lobby and saw EVERYTHING lego and Owen’s (and Ella’s) eyes lite up I knew it was a great decision to visit this hotel. It was the most kid friendly hotel I have ever stayed at. If your kid loves lego’s you NEED to save up the coins and stay here for a night!!
Legoland had a deal for buy one park hopper ticket and get a second day for free. It worked perfect for us. We went into Legoland for about 32 seconds, it was packed and had only been opened for 25 minutes but we happily settled on going into the Sea Life Aquarium. Owen is still a water-animal lover (SeaWorld is still one of his all time favorite places in the world!)…so I thought it would be fun to check it out.
Notice how Ella won’t keep her eyes of the scary sharkies in the background. lol terrified.
This visit made me realize that our Ella isn’t exactly the animal lover that her brother is. She was terrified of most of the aquariums. The pictures I have of her at the windows were after lots of time and sometimes tears. But she seemed to kinda warm up to them toward the end of the afternoon. SO different from Owen!! He has loved all water animals since the first time he set foot into an aquarium when he was like 2 years old. When you ask Ella about the fishies she’ll tell you that “I no like sharks, I cry!” haha Poor little girl.
Owen loved every moment of it. We got some lunch at the little cafe at the end of the aquarium and got the call that our room was ready! PERFECT!
After leaving the lobby we went into the elevator…ummm….genius! They are “disco elevators”. So you get in, door closes and then the disco ball and music starts. Ella LOVED the IDEA of the dance parties…but she usually clung to my leg and didn’t dance during the dance parties! USUALLY Daddy was the only silly one dancing! Got some great videos to show in 30 years! ;)
We checked into our Adventure Themed room…it was SO cool!
Bunk beds with a trundle bed and their own TV in the kids quarters. Then a bathroom equipped with a step stool AND a toilet seat that had the option for little butts! And a king bed and tv from the parents area! It was cute!! I loved the IDEA of the bunk beds and they made for cute pictures BUT they didn’t make for a good nights sleep for my kids! Ella fell out of the bottom bunk twice (onto the trundle that I pulled out!) and then Owen was “scared to be on the top bunk alone”. Mommy didn’t get much sleep that night.
Owen was VERY impressed that the people at Legoland knew it was his birthday!!! How the heck did they know that??
The kids get some scavenger hunt clues to try and figure out the code to get into the treasure in each room.
Some of the questions were #1: How many picture frames are on the wall directly across from the 1st floor elevator? #2: How many lego waiters are in one of the cafe’s there? #3: How many balloons are flying above the castle in the lobby? #4: Figure out the puzzle under the tv in your kids room. You get the numbers and then open the treasure chest to find your “treasure” (mini figures, gold chocolate coins and a lego magazine) Owen LOVED that…and hell I thought it was pretty darn clever!!
We went down to the pool at the hotel because I insisted that we enjoy as much as possible!!
Great kid friendly pool that had lego IN IT to play with. Owen was in heaven!! Ella just wanted to collect and hoard as many as she could! They supplied life vests for those that couldn’t swim, had lifeguards on duty and a buoy line to show where the pool got deeper. It was great. Owen swam for over 2 hours!
Since we were in San Diego area my girlfriend came out to visit. She brought her daughter and Owen enjoyed having a buddy to play with in the pool AND they came to dinner with us at the Brick’s buffet!
Another GREAT part of the hotel is they offer kid entertainment in the evenings. We caught some games with the Princess and the Pirate after dinner and they had a pajama party at 8pm and Owen was PUMPED to go! So after bath we headed down to the lobby for some music, dancing and games again. If I wasn’t with child that would have been my chance to have few glasses o’ wine! haha
Ella was beyond excited about dancing. It was adorable!
Owen is still talking about “that one song…Y-M-C-A”… ((shoot me!)) haha
So around 9pm we called it a night. Mama was tired and we had a full day of legoland ahead of us!
