Official Little Leaguer

Back in August Owen started Little League. I was such a proud mama.  I think the last 10 weeks has been the biggest step in learning and development for Owen.  Between Kindergarten AND playing baseball for the first time he has morphed into a different little person…and its in a good way!

The first practice vs the last practice was like night and day…literally!!  Back in August our practices were at 5pm and it was still light and HOT. Now in November its dark and chilly.

I think back to that day in August and we were all so lost. Pulling up to the park we were terrified (Yosh and I)…but I would NEVER let Owen know thats how we were feeling.  We were walking into uncharted territories…and Owen amazed me how easily he just fit in with the group. And as the season went on we watched Owens nerves fade away. He found a sport or something that he really enjoyed…something other than gymnastics.  And I was so so happy!!! Little League is super awesome and I can’t wait for him to get to experience what I did so many years ago as well.

But our last night of practice I was feeling emotional.  Watching him interact with new kids turned friends, taking instruction from his coaches and KNOWING what to do out there on the field was great to watch.

Many know our Owen and how encouraging and helpful he is to others…great example is while I was taking these pics of him batting he got a hit…and while he was running to first base he was yelling at the kid who was suppose to be covering first to remind him to get on the base and wait for the ball! haha.

Our last game with the Storm was another great one!  To see how all the boys have gotten so much better in 2 months. Our first game kids had NO clue where 1st base was…by the last game they knew all the positions and were finally getting SOME of the game technicalities.  There are a lot of damn rules to learn in baseball…you forget about all of them were you leave the baseball world for a little while.

And no little league season ends without an exciting pizza party.  Arcade games, pizza and a trophy….oh Lord Owen was beyond words.

Ella was cracking me up…already that annoying little sister that literally followed Owen around the place! She just wanted to be included…and he didn’t have time for her with all his buddies around.  But she didn’t need an invitation…she climbed up and would literally include herself!

He was so excited about his FIRST EVER trophy!  Him and his buddy Caleb with a C (we had 2 Calebs on the team…and a Kale AND a Kaden…confusing much) couldn’t keep their eyes off the trophies long enough to say cheese for a pic. How cute is that?!?

So proud of our little slugger…well maybe he’s not a slugger just yet BUT I have to say at LEAST his running as improved! Yes I said running…no more leading with his elbows haha But seriously all his skills improved but I think his running was most noticeable. He enjoyed himself and thats all that matters BUT I think the last 10 weeks we have grown as parents as well. The first few weeks and games were rough. We sat back and tried to stay in “parent mode” with a smile on our faces (while deep down we were frustrated as all hell) and not turn over into “coach mode” which in the end caused us to be irritated, impatient and miserable. It sounds silly but its true. Poor Owen…with 2 parents who are/were athletes AND coaches…we have to remind ourselves that we are there to encourage and support him…not be too hard on him (we’ll give him a few seasons before that kicks in! haha).  Once we figured that out things flowed MUCH more smoothly. I wasn’t faking my smiles or encouragement…I was learning how to support him while still being real with him.  We found the time at home to start talking and working on catching, throwing and batting.   I can’t wait to sign him up for Spring Ball!!!
