Fireworks & the River

I’ve mentioned it before but I really love the 4th of July! It makes me so nostalgic…and this year wasn’t any different. We started the day at home…being lazy and loving it. We ate lunch (my fav…banquet fried chicken, potatoe salad and corn on the cob)…while still in our jammies sitting in the backyard! It was lovely!!!  I was shocked that we actually got Owen to eat corn on the cob…it was a happy moment for us! haha

After naps we headed up to a friends house for some food, fun and swimming! Thanks for having us Gonzales Fam!

We then headed back to my parents house in Fontana…its still one of the few cities that allows fireworks, so we were able to have our own little show in the front yard. But while we waited for the sun to go down Mom brought out a tub of toys…it was the last of my brothers toys from when he was a kid.

Watching Owen play with them…and my Dad eyeing the toys…probably having the same memory flashbacks that I was…was weird. I remember those toys…I remember them in my brothers hands and him playing with them. I remember the noises he’d make each thing have while they were fighting each other…and then sitting there, so many years later watching my son do the same stuff was really bittersweet. We sat in the living room…and just watched Owen play…and for once it didn’t feel sad…it felt kinda right. Paul would have wanted Owen to have those, and for once my Dad even seemed to kind of except it as well.

Owen liked our “little fireworks” but was really scared of the illegal loud/professional ones that were going off all around us!

It was sorta funny at one point I had my hands over Owen’s ears…just to make him feel better! But Owen says “Granda…your neighbors fireworks are bigger than yours!” haha It was so funny!.  But I swear…sitting in my parents driveway was better than being at ANY firework show…there were awesome fireworks going off everywhere!

Another great 4th of July…another year Yosh and I both say…”Gosh I REALLY wish we had a pool at our house” haha. Oh well…maybe someday!!

After a great day…we woke up and headed to the river. It was going to be our first trip of the season so Yosh was a bit nervous about having boat issues (like we seem to always have).  I drove…like always (I have a car sickness problem)…and the whole way there I was cruising the limit…not wanting to get a ticket (which seems to happen to this girl from time to time).  We got off the fwy and were driving over the dips…Owen says “faster mommy faster”…and I say “Sorry buddy…Mommy doesn’t want to get a ticket”.  I swear…within 5 minutes of me saying that I lose my concentration when the Nevada road starts (its much smoother and nicer than the Cali roads)…and BAM….

I get PULLED over!!! I was soo mad at myself…and even told the officer that when he came to my window…grrrrr. He seemed to understand and was semi-cool. So we waited…and waited…and waited for this cop to write me my damn ticket! I was annoyed. But like my mother has told me “you catch more flies with honey than you do vinegar”…so I kept my cool.  Anyway…so he gives me “my coupon” (as he called it).  Only cited me for going 60 in a 55 zone when he clocked me at 77mph (oops). I graciously took my “coupon” and away we went. Within 60 seconds I’m being pulled over AGAIN!!! I was like…”WHAT THE HELL, Yosh I’m being pulled over AGAIN!”….I pull over…and the cop pulls up next to me…rolls his window down and says…
Officer: “Are you a sheriff?”
Me: “No…..”"
Officer: “It just popped up…so you aren’t a sheriff?”
Me:No…but my Dad is a lieutenant with LA County Sheriffs Department”
Officer: …gives me a look like…WHAT THE HECK…..”so your Dad is huh?”
Me: “Yeah”
Officer: “…give me the ticket”
Me: …look of SHOCK on my face…”ok…well thank you so very much!!!!”

I couldn’t believe it. I have NEVER used my father to get out of a ticket…usually b/c I’m either a) way to pissed to beg for mercy or b) to scared that the cop will laugh in my face. But this time…Daddy-O got me out of a ticket…thank goodness! And I have NO clue HOW it came up Sheriff…he must of ran my name…but I still don’t know how sheriff came up for me?!? Asking NO questions and moving right along!

Anyway…We arrived and the boys went to the boat to clean and prep it (and I was TOTALLY ok with that…years past I had to go out in the heat and scrub the darn thing…so it was nice to get to stay at the hotel for that part…b/c it super sucks!) Poor Yosh, Joel and Travis didn’t get done working on the boat until 10pm…batteries were dead…so that caused for a bit of chaos. BUT everything was fixed and we had a great 2 days on the water!!!

Then we made time for the brave kids to jump off the top of the boat…you will notice MY child would again (2nd year in a row) go NEAR the top of the boat…or even the side for that matter!!) But even little tiny Jaxon jumped off the top…it was pretty scary at one point though…he jumped and his feet slipped, which made him go head first, dive style, into the water…we all freaked out a tad. He came up crying saying he hit his face on the water, poor little dude…but as soon as he was done crying he headed back up and jumped again!! Brave boy!!

<---- This is Owen’s attitude face…he didn’t want to get in the water…but ended up going in for a swim anyway! Little booger!

Trav caught a small mouth bass, a catfish and 2 striped bass. And ALL Owen could talk about was fishing with Travis all weekend. HE loves fishing (which is kinda odd since we aren’t really “fishing people”).
