We had a great weekend out with Sally for her 4th camping trip and Maggie’s FIRST vacation!!
We stayed pretty local because I wasn’t sure if I’d be brave enough to do the camping thing with an 8 week old. Rancho Jurupa is close enough to home that I could always go home to decompress or sleep for the night with Maggie while Daddy stayed in the trailer with the big kids. And can I say how weird it still is to call Owen and Ella my “big kids”…weird. But anyway…it all worked out great and I didn’t need to leave at all. We kicked Daddy out of our bed, which allowed Maggie to sleep with Mommy and Daddy slept with Ella in the middle bunk!
Nothing beats morning cuddles in the trailer though…Ella was so excited to see Maggie when she woke up. She kept saying “Maggie sleeped in the twailer like me!”
Our first night there we got set up right before the sun set…but the wind was kicking up so we weren’t able to get a bonfire going. Sad Face! Whats camping without bonfires right?! And unfortunately we woke on Saturday morning to more wind…booooooo. But we made the best of the day! Lots of playing for the kids, kinect sand and playdoh is awesome on camping trips.
Maggie doesn’t really like the outdoor elements on a nice day…so being outside on this windy day was kinda annoying her. We kept her inside or covered in a stroller most of the time. But she was a happy camper regardless!
And we also had lots of fun at the parks AND the lake at Rancho Jurupa too! ALL the kids (yes Yosh is included in that!) had fun playing. Ella loves swings and wants Daddy to push her WAY to high for Mommy’s liking…and Owen was so determined to learn to cross the monkey bars.
Fishing wasn’t allowed at the lake but the kids liked watching the ducks and whatever those cute little black bird things are.
Maggie slept through most of her first vacation….and thats ok lol When she WAS awake I tried to take as many pictures as I could! haha
But I have to say I think the highlight of this camping trip was our Turkey Feast! My awesome friend Erin organized a Thanksgiving dinner for about 40 people. We had like 7 families on this camping trip and we had a deep fried turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, gravy, desserts, the full spread! It was awesome. We brought 4 picnic benches together, 2 kids tables and had a GREAT meal! It was even started off by a prayer from 4 year old Brooklyn. It was adorable!
It was great food and a great way to ease our way into Thanksgiving week…and start wearing comfy pants because we stuff our faces to much!!
That night the wind dyed down enough to have a bonfire but we didn’t do smores since it was already so dark and the kids had already had baths! haha Those thangs are messy and it got dark super fast and super early. I’m not used to camping when the sun goes down at 5pm!
We all slept VERY well that night…exhausted from a day full of fun! Owen actually fell asleep at 6:30pm! We had breakfast the next morning with just our smaller group of friends…and it was what camping was all about. Yosh was cookin’ the bacon and sausage, Kris cookin’ the eggs…listening to some good country music. It was lovely!
Owen took my phone and was making movies (that ended up being a 29 min SLOW MO video!!! yikes) but he took some great pictures too!!
Loved finding these pictures and seeing our camping breakfast through his eyes!! lol Thinking I need to hand the kid a camera more often!!
Sunday the wind was finally gone and it was one of those HOT HOT HOT days in November!! If we weren’t camping we probably would have been out by our pool!!
The kids went hunting for treasures too. One of the Dads had a metal detector…and Erin was hiding coins and the kids thought they were randomly finding all this money! haha It kept all the kids busy for a few hours!!
We went back to the parks and lake one last time before packing up and heading home before dark! We didn’t stay through till Monday because Maggie had her 2 month doc appt in the morning and we wouldn’t make it rushing.
Owen was DETERMINED to get across these monkey bars. Every time he attempted I just held my breathe (random fact…my first broken bone was in first grade from falling off the monkey bars!)
It was a great trip!! I’m really happy that Taryn and Erin got this trip together and pushed me to at least TRY and camp with a little baby! My anxiety sometimes takes over my decision making and I usually chicken out of everything. But this time they convinced me and I’m really glad they did!
Its the start of our #FiveFamily camping adventures…and can’t wait to see all the places Sally will bring us!
