Halloween

Of course, as it seems every year, the week leading up to Halloween our house fills with germs.  Ella started with the fever and fatigue…which led to puking and a NASTY cough and then the return of a fever (which is the indicator to head to kaiser…and we got a bronchitis diagnoses) with antibiotics.  She was full of cuddles all week which isn’t like her. I really hate when my kids are sickie! But a few days of antibiotics and she was back to her normal self.

And…as you would expect it Owen followed suit and came down with a fever, etc etc a few days later.

I was hoping they’d be ok for Halloween and be able to go trick-or-treating! Owen ended up missing his last practice and last flag football game that week because of this darn cold. Total bummer!

But thankfully Halloween shaped up to be a great day! Big kids still kinda battling colds/coughs BUT no fevers and my challenge was to keep them away from Maggie (which didn’t work…as of today poor Maggie has the cough too! sad face!)  Why kids always feel the need to be IN a baby’s face is beyond me. If I had a dollar for every time I had to say “Get out of Maggie’s face!” I’d be freaking rich!!!

Our Halloween morning we carved pumpkins…something I HATE doing! hahaha I know its something you just “have” to do and we always will BUT if I can get out of it (by letting Daddy do the pumpkins and I just take the pictures) I will!  And yes we carved our pumpkins inside the house because Daddy can NOT stand flies! I was shocked the mess was minimal too!

Owen did NOT like getting his hands dirty…but of course Ella didn’t mind one bit!

 

Ella was content just drawing on a pumpkin, she told me her pumpkin looked like a banana, sure honey…whatever you say!?!? Owen found the carving pretty difficult too. I think next year we could probably just do a painted pumpkin and they’d be happy!?!?  Daddy got stuck with all the hard work. heehee. 
Maggie watched and NO I didn’t put my little baby in a pumpkin…(shes too small or you know it would have happened! haha).

I gave up pretty quick on getting a good one.  Whatever I got, I got!  Officer Souza, Rapunzel and Little Black Kitty were all excited to get to the Gerke’s for some trick-or-treating!

Trick-Or-Treating around Taryns neighborhood is always fun.  We get to see some of our students and ex-polo players around the community. 

Owen LOVED it this year…I was totally shocked because Ella wasn’t haven’t it. I had to beg her to go to the first house…and she lasted about 4 houses and then sat happily in the stroller the rest of the night.  It was odd she wasn’t into it…especially since her love of candy is nuts!

 



 
 

We were out for 2 hours max and all the kids were done.  Owen “made the money”…Ella was too scared but DID get some candy!!  Her highlight was probably when she bit into a glow stick and it busted in her mouth! It freaked me out.  But we found out that they are non-toxic…they just taste like sh*t.  Poor Ella.  She’ll learn to never bite one of those again!!

We have never been home this early on halloween before…Owen actually got to pass out candy to our own Trick-Or-Treaters…he said it was awesome!! And he wants to come home early every year so he can pass out candy!! Cute huh!?

  

Overall our Halloween was perfect.  Having a 5 week old on Halloween can be challenging.  Thankfully I think we all handled it well!  She was easy…thank goodness!

Maggie Mae enjoyed her first Halloween…Owen enjoyed his 7th halloween and Ella her 3rd halloween.
