Did you know that to book beach sites for camping you have to do it 6 months in advance! SIX MONTHS!! Like 6 months to the day, people get on the computer and start trying to get sites. The “good” ones are gone in minutes! Isn’t that freaking NUTS!! Since Sally came home in the beginning of June our shot for any beach camping this summer was pretty slim (BUUUT I actually did snag a site at Silver Strand State Beach for July! yay). All our camping friends were so happy and helpful with trying to get some trips put together.
We booked our “Maiden Voyage” to Lake Skinner over Father’s Day weekend with The Browns and The Parkers. We were excited and so nervous!
Daddy was nervous about the towing capacities of our 2015 F150…he was white knuckling it the whole drive!
Yosh did great driving. I knew he would.
It was a toasty weekend to be camping. And you would think LAKE Skinner would mean you could go IN the lake…nope…its a non-swimming lake! BUT they had a splash pad to keep us cool.
This camping group was great. Two other experienced families who were so helpful. The kids were easy, Ella was the baby (other than Jess the puppy!). The Parker kids are like 11 and 10 so it was almost like having built in babysitters.
We went for LOTS of bike rides and in the evenings when the sun was going down the weather was beautiful.
I could NOT keep Ella clean…not one bit. Every time I turned around this little girl was filthy! haha Gotta love camping.
Both kids slept great in the trailer which was a relief because I was nervous they wouldn’t sleep well in the bunk beds.
We hung out and had a great time. Daddy got his father’s day gift a day early…cool new ‘Daddy Yoshi’ apron for his BBQ’in.
The kids had a great time bringing Jess on walks. Ella just wanted to hold her leash BUT we didn’t let her because we didn’t trust either Ella OR Jess. lol
The only reason I was REALLY excited about getting Sally was for all the smores. The first night camping we did them when it was way to dark, Ella was actually already in bed. I knew that Owen wasn’t a smore fan…he likes the graham crackers, chocolate and marshmallows but all separate. Not touching…typical. But I had my hopes up for Ella. I thought she would be my girl!
…NOPE…she wasn’t a fan of the fire, marshmallows, graham crackers NOTHING. All she wanted was chocolate and lots of it. Oh well. She’s young…maybe she’ll change OR Baby Bob will be my smore lover! haha
The nights were good. Night one, as a rookie camper, when I put Ella to sleep I stayed in the trailer with her. I was nervous she would wake and not know where she was. By night 2 I stayed out by the campfire with the adults for about 30 minutes. haha In time I’ll be comfortable leaving her in the trailer…I think. lol
Owen loved being able to watch movies with his friends in their trailers. He got to stay up super late..it was cute finding him like this.
Ella was always the first one awake…and she LOVED waking us ALL up too!
Yay Sally’s Maiden Voyage went great!!!!
Everything went great! We learned some stuff…like how to open the AC vent in the main kitchen part of the trailer…haha we were so confused as to why the AC wasn’t working great. haha Its figuring out the little things ya know?!? Thanks to great friends for a great trip!!! I see lots more of these in the future!
We got home and got the trailer parked on the side of the house in 2 attempts. I was impressed with us!! And it just so happened to be Father’s Day as well. We were tired from our trip so we just hung out at home. It was a nice day even if it wasn’t anything fancy.
A day of playing and dinner at Wahoo’s
And Papa got a visit the day after Father’s Day…and he loved his shirt from the kids.
