Exciting time of year…not just for kids but for parents too! I remember my dad being so happy around the holidays…and NOW I totally understand why. Owen is talking about Christmas NON-STOP!!! He said the other day “Mom…I’m SO excited for Christmas…I can’t stop thinking about presents!” (He said it so innocently…not being a brat or anything)
Yeah but it got me thinking…I need to start explaining to him the REAL meaning of Christmas and how being selfless is cool and its fun to GIVE presents too, not just get presents.
I have told him in the past about giving his toys away to kids that don’t get toys (when I’m trying to de-clutter the playroom)…so the other day I mentioned to him about maybe buying some toys to give to little kids that don’t get toys…his response: “ummm mom…all kids get put on either the naughty or nice list” (DAMN YOU Doc McStuffins!) Again he didn’t say it being a brat…he was just stating the facts that have been presented to him (in all his favorite shows).
So my question to you…HOW do you tell a 4 year old about giving to others when they believe that Santa brings toys to all???? I was TOTALLY stumped! Mom gave me a good idea to say that some parents are so poor that they don’t have money to mail letters to Santa…and the kids don’t get presents since Santa doesn’t know about them. Another friend said to say that some kids don’t have a chimney so Santa can’t come. But man this whole Santa thing is going to get tough as he gets older and has questions and stuff. And I totally SUCK at thinking of GOOD responses on the fly.
BUT this year our Santa visit was surprisingly UNEVENTFUL. I kinda had a pool going to see who thought Ella would cry and who wouldn’t. We went to BassPro shop to get our free picture (like usual)…and to be honest, I actually don’t even like the free picture, I just like being able to take pictures with my own camera. The walk up to Santa, the deep conversation, etc. like last years visit. But the wait was 2.5 hours…on a MONDAY at 4:30pm…crazy right!
So we brought ourselves over to the Victoria Gardens Santa…we waited 10 minutes (yeah in the cold, no biggie) but got our Santa visit/picture out of the way BAM! Best $15 ever spent!!
And folks….NO tears! …well not until he looked at her and she was like “WHAT THE HELL are you?” haha BUT the picture is decent!
And here is our Santa experiences…
ps. Taryn I DON’T have a picture of JUST Owen in 2011…so I probably do need to scan the picture and give you one! Just remind me! haha Why didn’t we get pics of our kids alone? Weird.
The Christmas season is upon us…its cold outside, which feels lovely for us So Cal peeps…and we still have no ornaments on the Xmas Tree. whoops! lol We’ll get there….one day at a time. haha
