My friend Heather came across this blog…called Joy’s Hope. The background story is very sad and of course it gets you sucked in (I’m TOTALLY a sucker for sad and depressing blogs…don’t ask why, I just am!) Anyway…Joy’s Hope had a GREAT idea called a Favorite Things Party and here is where she blogged about it. So Heather was determined to host her own Favorite Things Party. It took some major planning…trying to get a bunch of women to be available on the same evening to enjoy some time together is a difficult challenge BUT we did it….and OH it was so worth it.
Getting time without husbands and kids is rare…and I had to say it was kinda nice. Nothing we need to do ALL the time but it was nice to be able to talk without interruptions of snacks, potty, toys, etc.
So Deanna, Kyla, Jen, Lindsey, Jessica, Heather, Taryn and Myself gathered on a Saturday evening after we all put our kids to bed (or left our husbands to put them to bed). We brought an appetizer or dessert to share and hung out (which of course leads to WAY to much food!). You would have laughed your ass off if you were a fly on the wall…conversations ranged from placenta’s, bleeding, childbirth, photographers, potty training, husbands, football, family craziness, etc. You name it, we probably covered it! And man we laughed…and laughed some more. I think I might have said on numerous occasions that I might pee in my pants a little from all the hilarious moments!
The whole idea of the party is to get together…eat, drink, socialize and share and exchange your “favorite thing” with your girlfriends. So the instructions are: think of your favorite thing that is priced between $5-$10…like anything…from lotion, make-up, yarn, beverages, cleaning supplies, whatever! You then come to the party with 5 of those items. You will draw 5 raffle tickets of 5 different people; you then get to explain your item and why its your favorite thing and give your item to the people who’s tickets you drew! The anticipation of waiting to see if your name would be called is awesome…they are explaining their item and you are foaming at the mouth wanting the product!!! haha So you come with 5 items…and leave with 5 different items from 5 different people. Its so fun! Its like the best x-mas gift exchange ever, no stupid gifts…and without it being Christmas! haha
Jessica’s favorite thing was 12x12 canvas with paint and brush for fun craft projects with her kids…make great holiday crafts, gifts, etc.
Deanna’s favorite thing is Modge Podge (we all said Modge Podge about 500 times too!) the ultimate crafters adhesive.
Taryn’s favorite thing is making cookies…so she got cookie mix, frosting, a mini spatula and cookie cutters.
Heather’s favorite thing is iced coffee…so she got coffee mix, a large mason jar and she made cute place mats!
My favorite thing is my tumbler (usually used for just ice and water)…but I added some vodka and crystal light since it WAS my favorite memory of our cruise back in June from obviously before I was pregnant…or KNEW I was pregnant…oops!
Kyla’s fav thing is lip gloss…its not too sticky AND we got these really cool hair ties that are cute on your wrist and are not meant to leave a kink in your hair!
Jen’s favorite thing is mascara…and this particular brand and kind has had her heart for years! I will say Jen…My Mother saw this item and TOTALLY agreed with you!
Lindsey should become an advertising and sales employee for her item…she pitched that item like she was in the Shark Tank asking for a million dollar investment!! Her item was leave-in conditioner from fruitista…darn wish I would have gotten that item for this weave (anyone notice my hair is coming back…not more boy length fro-curly mop head!)
It was pretty cool to hear what everyone “loved” and why…and of course the laughs that come along with it. Using camera timers while a pregnant lady tries to get her fat ass into her spot is funny as hell…and only took us a few times to finally get a decent picture.
Oh and don’t forget the AWESOME personalized bags that Heather made all of us…so cute and thoughtful! …and that’s Heather (the hostess with the mostest) and I…both 27 weeks prego…and it looks as though I might have her beat as of right now for bump size.
Thanks girls for a very fun evening!!! I’m thankful for your friendships…and love ya’ll very much!
