AYSO Soccer–The Wolves

Owen wanted to play soccer again in the fall…and this horrible mother over here missed the Empire League’s deadline. So we had no choice but to go with our local AYSO soccer league. Yeah. A lot different. Owen’s team didn’t have a coach so I volunteered the hubs!  He was overcome with joy……not. Yeah oops won’t EVER do that again.  He’s an AMAZING coach, but he wasn’t confident with soccer…since its a sport he’s only played on FiFa. And with Daddy being the coach I sort of naturally got put into the Team Mom position…which I totally sucked at! lol

Owen was so happy to have his dad as the coach. It was cute!

When we got our team pictures I was laughing…I’m THAT mom in the team picture. Felt so weird. Kinda like I officially grew up! I remember MY Mother being in my team pictures as a kid…

Actually found one handy…the Astros won the world series and I posted this on my social media in honor of them winning..

Thats Bernie on the right holding the HANDMADE felt team banner!!! She was the Team Mom that used to watch the coaches babies (the mom’s were the coaches…dad’s suck I guess! haha). And from mom watching our coaches newborn at practice, it turned into Mom watching her kids for over 10 years! Jeffrey and AJ were my other 2 brothers.

It was fun to watch Yosh coach the little dudes. He’s so used to coaching high school kids so he had to re-teach himself how to get their attention, teach them at their level. He did so good with them! Such patience.

The season was a rough one.  We lost every game. Scored only 3 goals all season and thankfully OWEN actually scored one of those! Our little man grew as a player and really vibed with all the kids on the team. It was fun to watch but HARD to come home to a pissed off coach every weekend!  I had to keep reminding him they are only 8 years old and he didn’t want to hear any of that.

And I had to try and watch Owen and the boys WHILE catering to these two lunatics!

Some weeks the girls would play together nicely…other weeks they’d bicker and annoy the heck out of me! haha

Yosh did SUCH a great job building these young men up! Even after they’d have a half getting their booty’s whooped he’d bring them in and still try and point out the good. Always giving them advice to help them better but he was more about making sure the kids had a smile on their face.

There was a boy on Owen’s team, Zac, that seriously could have been his brother! Both with the long blonde hair…

Last game of the season was bittersweet. The boys were sad it was over BUT they were over getting beat every game too!  And Daddy was over the moon to be done. I felt so bad for him. He did SUCH a good job though. He stepped up when no other parents would.

From the beginning to the end of the season the improvement was crazy. They went from boys running away from the ball to actually working together, communicating and making their way to the goal with it!  Another few months and they would have TOTALLy clicked!

I had to plan end of the year team party…and little player gifts. THAT was kinda fun, especially since soccer teams are fairly small. So I made them all picture collages and a few other little things. It was fun to do for them.

It was like a banquet except Daddy could have a few drinks! haha It was fun end to the season.
