When I was younger they didn’t do braces on kids until they were like in middle school. Then, if you were like me, you would have to go through some DRAMATIC transformation because your teeth were so effed up! I had 8 adult teeth pulled to make room for all my other teeth…roof expander to widen my tiny mouth…braces for 2 years. Ugh it was rough.
Now a days they seem to do it a little differently. Some say its just to get more money out of parents…but I think I believe in the process of doing braces in phases.
Poor Owen was blessed with my tiny mouth. He has LOTS of teeth and NO room for them. He’s only 7 and his dentist has already referred him to ortho…to get the process started. Through xrays and exams the ortho has decided that we need to get 4 baby k9’s removed to make room for the other teeth…and then we’ll worry about the adult k9’s in a few years. Poor Owen’s beautiful smile is going to take some time…ok lots of time.
We visited Dr. Kawata about 6 months ago for a consult. Now we were back and not much done because Owen needs some moving to take place.
The office is pretty cool for teenagers and kids. They give them ipads to keep them entertained while waiting for the doc (Owen thought this was the coolest)
We left that appt knowing Owen was going to have to get his teeth pulled. Gosh I’m SO nervous for him! I played it cool…he seemed a little concerned but figures the toothfairy will be VERY generous if he has to get 4 teeth pulled!!
Fast forward to November 2nd…we had the appt to have Matt pull Owen’s teeth. I never told him the appt was made because I know his nerves would take over.
So Daddy brought him to get his hair cute….FINALLY. And then off to see Dr. Matty
Last pic of Owen with his baby k9s.
Pretty awesome when some of your best buddies are your dentists kids…then they leave you treats for being so brave during your appt!!
Owen did SOOOO good. They were NOT anywhere near coming out anytime soon…so all 4 teeth had huge roots on them. Matt said he had to get them out like adult teeth…sad face! Poor Owen. But Matt said he was so impressed on how brave Owen was!!
He wasn’t too happy after…and is like his mama…HATES the gauze. We made our trek home. Took us almost an hour and a half because of the horrible traffic on the 91fwy. I actually had to pull over 4 times, 2 of those were ON the freeway…to replace his bloody gauze.
It was a HORRIBLE hour and a half…I felt like the worst mom ever! I know he just wanted to be home…and there was NOTHING I could do to hurry that ride up!
Once home he was a bit happier. I couldn’t believe how brave of a kid he is!!!
All those teeth wouldn’t even fit in the treasure chest they sent home with us!! But Owen was pumped for the ToothFairy…which ended up bringing him $20 and then Nana gave him $20 too!!! Rich kid.
He grew up about 5 years in one day…first with the hair and then the teeth..it was crazy!
Now we wait for his lateral incisors to come in and then back to Dr. Kawata. One step closer to getting those braces.
