We have only been back at school for 3 weeks BUT its been a long 3 weeks! We were all very excited for our long weekend…even if Labor Day symbolizes the end of summer time…its been gone for us since August 11th!!
But living in Cali we all know that our “summer” doesn’t really leave until end September even into mid October some years. Weekends will be spent by the pool for a good few more weekends! Next will be the Santa Ana winds and then I’m gonna wanna kill myself!
My parents are lucky young healthy retirees…and even luckier to be able to split their time between here in California and in Ireland! While Mom is here she watches my kids every Wednesday and the occasional weekend when the hubs and I need a date night. BUT when Mom is away in Ireland our babysitting options are pretty few and far between (which yes I’ll admit its my own doing…I’m a bit crazy). SO I took advantage of this long weekend and having Mom around to take my littles!
I originally wanted to do an adult river trip to Laughlin….BUT all our friends weren’t able to get away for one reason or another. So we went in another direction…
It was suppose to take us 4hours and 28 minutes to get there BUUUT thanks to holiday weekend traffic it took us a tad closer to 6 hours!
Not an ugly drive BUT it was long. I drove…Yosh read me articles from the internet…it was quality time! haha We arrived in our “NON-5 Star hotel”…but it did the job! Decent view and only 1 block away from the bay and little main street.
We headed down to the mainstreet for some dinner and drinks. Thanks to yelp we ended up in a good few places before finding something decent. One bad thing about Morro Bay…the food wasn’t anything to write home about!
We found this fun little dive bar. Yosh was yelping…I was people watching. Yes that is a moose on the wall covered in x-mas lights! It was totally glamorous. bahaha
The next morning we yelped to find us a good breakfast joint…mission accomplished. Again…not the BEST but it was good enough. It was a cute little place called Kitty’s Kitchen. I ordered a diet Pepsi and they brought me out a can! haha And you know the coffee pic was staged…I don’t drink coffee but thought the mug was cute.
Absolutely beautiful day…and all I wanted to do was relax on a beach and read!! No kids to watch, feed, cater too…so we headed out to find a nice spot!
Morro Rock Beach first…
I love self-timer pics!! BUT we tried to do one of those “cute jumping pics”…and it was so funny!!! We tried a lot of times….hahahaha None very successful! lol
With sand-flies being RIDICULOUS…we headed north 7 miles to Cayucos and found an AMAZING beach!
I was shocked that it was Labor Day weekend and the beaches were FAR from packed. They were deserted! Yosh body surfed…I read…it was so perfect!
We wondered around some art fair and market night in town before going for a scenic (but shitty food) meal!
I got a sandwich…and it had slimy meat…YUCK!
More after dinner drinks on our hotel patio…
The sunset there is one of the most gorgeous things ever. I swear that Morro Rock looks magical. All day and all evening…it stands all huge in the middle of the bay and there is like a magical shield around it. Yosh was making fun of me on how much I said magical in one night. But it so was! I felt like it looked like Never Land would look like in real life!
Our night turned into a drink fest. Met some peeps, almost got tattoos (THANK YOU JESUS the shop was closed!) and I was pretty darn hungover for the long car right home on Sunday. (I wanted to die!) Puking in Solvang went down on my bucket list…lol jk
It was an awesome weekend. We love our kids but we also love our time to be husband and wife as well! Its good for the soul and our relationship to get away from time to time. We experienced somewhere new, relaxed and had a WONDERFUL time.
Thanks Nana for being amazing and taking care of our house, kids, pet fish, bringing my children to mass, swimming, etc. What would we do without you??? (Be stressful crazy parents…thats what!)
Thanks Morro Bay…it was awesome!
