Ohhhh Lover Boy!!

So last Friday (September 2nd) we attended our friend Lindsey’s 30th birthday bash. It was a Hollywood Affair…and you were to dress up as your favorite celebrity or actor, past or present!  This thing wasn’t like any other birthday party I’ve been too…being that I got a Save-The-Date card in the mail about 4 months ago I figured they mean business when they plan party’s in Lindsey’s family! Lindsey is a twin so the party was double the fun!  I usually hate themed parties..I mean I LOVE throwing them but hate attending them. haha My brain is always too lazy to think of something cool to wear…and like usual I was dreading trying to think of someone to dress up as for this too. So I posted it on FB and got all kinds of cool responses from friends…and we finally figured it out…. Does this scene look familiar??

Ohhhhh Lover Boy…..”

Do you know who we are??????

DirtyDancing4-lg

That’s right…we dressed up at Johnny and Baby from Dirty Dancing…one of my ALL TIME favorite movies!! And now with my hair being so curly I was TOTALLY able to pull it off! I was more of the “chunkier, post-child” Baby though…and Yosh was the “retired dancer, beer drinking Johnny”  haha

Its weird because September 2nd was a HUGE day in my life 2 years ago. It was the day I started my chemotherapy treatment. It was the last time I ever ate a bagel, and probably will ever eat one (got total taste diversion since I ate a bagel while getting chemo BLAH..I wanna puke just writing about them). I was thinking to myself today…why are all these dates so significant this year and weren’t such a big thing last year…you would think that the first anniversary of things would be way more emotional…but in this instance its not…and I think its because last year, on the 1 year anniversary of starting treatment my body was still wounded and recovery from the treatment itself. This time last year I was only 6 months out of treatment…my brain was still in a fog and not letting me full comprehend what was going on. But now that my body is back to itself…the chemo and radiation no longer live in this body I’m able to think back on these days and be so grateful that I beat it…and that I was strong enough to go through with the treatment, get it done w/ a smile on my face and now being on the other end I’m happier and healthier than I’ve ever been.

Two Years Ago…when it all started…

I was so nervous…I had such anxiety to be starting this journey…being away from Owen for a long period of time as well…heck he was only 6 months old then and I wasn’t away from him very often (or ever!) Mom came with me…and Yosh stayed home with Owen for the first one. The early treatments were when I was able to swallow all my pre-meds, eat the ice they gave me, had to use the numbing cream for my port and stayed awake throughout the whole thing.  By the end, oh man…I couldn’t swallow pills w/o throwing up, ice was a no-go I had to bring popsicles, the numbing cream was over-rated and I would pray that I could sleep through it all. Oh how depressing that chair became!

But this year…2 years later…we were celebrating with friends! Laughing, Talking, Sharing and just being together. Thank you for that poison that entered my body then and allowed for me to be alive today!!

Some people asked…and yes after a bottle of wine and 2 margarita’s we performed the “Lover Boy” dance in the middle of Lindsey’s party…haha And here are the pics she caught. haha

hahahahaha My husband is totally sober and SUCH a freakin’ ham (and good sport!)

Here are a few pics we got at the party…Happy (now late) birthday Lindsey Harp!  Thanks for the super fun party!!!

New Month, New Milestones

My child is a little weird about certain things in life…like for example…he likes Veggie Straws, Bold Chex Mix and Pop chips…but ONLY if he sees you take them out of the original bag. Putting them in a ziplock baggy for his lunch is a no-go.  He’s an EXTREMELY picky eater so we are always catering to whatever this child will eat!!  Another one of his quirks is the fact that he sleeps in his own room (Thank you Martha for training my child) in a pack-n-play that is NEXT to his crib!?!? Yeah weird…I don’t know. But since his sleeps from 7-7:30pm until 7am…I don’t mess with it.  The other night as I was laying him down for the night I noticed that his legs/body is getting too long and he can’t even straighten his legs….oh dear…do I have to admit my little baby is officially outgrowing his “bed”??  I was sad…BUT thought well he’s almost 2 and a half…now's the time to get the big boy bed rockin’.   So we went to Target and let him pick his toddler size bedding for his new bed. He was so excited. Then yesterday while he was at Martha’s and before I left for jury duty I got his room ready for him.

So his sleeping arrangements went from this…

To this…

Literally over night!!!

I wanted to keep the crib there and bed in the same place until I know he’s comfortable with this change. Next thing to go will be that crib and we can save it for the next baby someday (Thanks Paterson Family). And yes that’s a TV tray next to his bed…that’s where we keep an extra do-do (pacifier), a book, and my old cell phone…that was there for the weekend mornings when he’d wake up and kinda hang out in his pack-n-play before we’d come get him. This weekend should be interesting…will he get himself out of bed before we are awake…or yell for us from his bed??? Who knows!

This evening Owen was soooo excited to go look at his Cars bed after dinner…He went upstairs all by himself just for a look. I had to drag him out of it for a bath…but he hopped back in it after bath & jammies…he was just so excited to go to sleep (which I couldn’t let him go yet..its only 6:30pm).  So we read some books…watched some Team Umizoomi…THEN he’ll go back to his “Big boy bed” for the night.

In his own room…in his own “real” bed….my gosh…my baby is growing up!! Which by the way he won’t let me call him anymore…if I say “I love you baby” he says “I’m not a baby, I’m a big boy!”  Oh gosh…I didn’t want this day to come…I told him he’ll be my Baby Forever whether he likes it or not.  heehee

Labor Day Craziness

Another weekend to keep us Souza’s busy…and busy we sure were! On Friday Sept. 2nd we celebrated our dear friend Lindsey Harp (and her twin’s) 30th birthday…yet another memorable day in my brain…again 2 years changes so much. BUT the party was themed…but I’ll post all about that later when I have time (and the pictures from Lindsey!)

IMG_3667On Saturday, Bernie, myself and Owen ventured to Little Corona Del Mar since Mom has never been there so I thought it would be fun and a change of scenery from our usual spot at Newport. We were there last week for family pictures and I didn’t understand why I didn’t go to that beach more often…the tide pools, little private beach…its all totally cute. (And it was the beautiful location of Erika & Chuck’s surprise wedding 2.5 years ago)  <------
Our morning started off amazing…we were driving around EVERYWHERE looking for somewhere to eat (which was NOT amazing because I don’t think rich beach people eat real food…we couldn’t find a McDonald’s to save our lives! haha) So we settled for Coco’s. Which ended up being cool…as we parked  outside of Coco’s I saw a handsome guy finishing up his jog right by our car…I looked at him as I walked around the car to get Owen out and asked the man “Were you on the Bachelorette?”  Now right there I shocked myself…I NEVER EVER speak to people I think might be famous…I get the WORST case of star-struckness…but I asked. And he answered “Yeah I sure was…very nice to  meet you”. At this point I’m not even looking at him, totally nervous, I tell him “Nice to meet you too” and he continues to walk away…I got so nervous when he actually answered me back.  It was Ryan from Ashley’s season of Bachelorette…teeheehee…and I’ll have to say he’s a handsome dude in real life! ;)   Mom asked who that was…and I was like “MOTHER you don’t know who that is….geez…its RYAN from Bachelorette” haha and she got all excited and asked if I wanted to get a picture with him and I quickly replied “NOOOOOOO”  But Mom thought he was an old high school friend…I guess he was staring at our car as we pulled up so Mom thought we knew each other or something. She later confessed that she thought he was just checkin’ her out! LMAO

Moving on…got to the beach and was disappointed to realize that the tide-pools weren’t there b/c it was high tide AND since we’ve had HUGE waves the past few days there was TONS of yucky, fly infested seaweed on the tiny beach. BUT of course we made due and had a good time.

From the beach I came home, dropped little dude off w/ Daddy and headed to the Angel Game with Erika. She is moving to Warden, WA next month…so I’m taking every opportunity I can to spend time w/ her before she leaves (this seriously makes me sad!)

IMG_4066IMG_4068

Great seats…and did I mention the Ne-Yo concert was after the game…Good Times..Thank you Erika!

IMG_4071IMG_4074
Ne-Yo actually kinda sucked in concert (I was hoping PitBull was going to run out and sing with him…but he didn’t)…the Dierks Bentley country concert was MUCH better…now was that because we were sober for Ne-Yo and drunk for Dierks…I guess we’ll never know!

Sunday Daddy spent the whole day with his buddies for a Man’s Day/Fantasy Football Draft Party. It amazes me how that kind of thing would seriously last 4 hours…and all the guys LOVE IT. But Owen and I kept ourselves busy busy. We went to Abby White’s slip-n-slide party…which was cute…the kids got “fish visors” to bring him…Owen and Addi loved theirs…for 2 minutes!

From Abby’s party, Taryn, Addi, Owen and I headed to Knotts Berry Farm. We got season passes for X-mas and have not been great at actually using them. But we brought the kids for a few hours in the evening, after it cooled off a bit. It was fun…they enjoyed themselves.

Then on Monday we spent most of the day lounging around…Zumba in the morning, which ALWAYS feels good But we hung out, caught up on TV and went to our friends house for dinner…friends which we don’t see often but funny enough we spent LAST Labor Day with as well..The Wade’s.

Owen & Sydney last year…

And the two little friends this year…

IMG_4102303517_2339475337059_1555187549_2480051_4199565_n

I texted Taryn to let Addi know she's gonna have a run for her money with Sydney around…heehee
He’s such a little stud muffin!

Such a nice 3 day weekend…we sooo needed that extra day off! And lucky me…I didn’t have to return to work today either since I had to report for Jury Duty. Joy! And what a day…not even excused from my civic duties until the attorney’s read over all our questionnaires on our feelings regarding capital punishment and potential gang-members…hope I DON’T get placed on this trial!

Happy Labor Day!
