The past few days have been busy busy busy…as usual. BUT I love being busy for a cause…and recently it was a few different causes! Mother’s Day weekend should be slow and relaxing right…nah…we had “stuff” to do! Ü
On Friday night (May 6th), our schools Dance program (class and club) put on a Dance Recital in honor of our student who recently lost his life in a tragic accident, Anthony Alvarez. Anthony was in the Dance/PE class as well as a member of our Boys Dance competition team. Anthony loved dancing, DJ’ing and always having fun. So his teacher, Mrs. Rodriguez decided to dedicate this years recital to him. It was such an amazing evening. Over 1,000 people packed into our schools gym and watched dancer after dancer experience their love for life as Anthony would have wanted them to do! As a lot of you know I recently found a new “love” of dancing myself, through Zumba, which is a Latin Heat aerobic dancing type exercise. Its so fun!! My zumba instructor is an amazing lady and when she got word that Anthony passed she went into “help-mode” and wanted to do something w/ her zumba to help his family. LONG story short…our zumba class performed at the dance recital. I thought it was a great idea, until about 20 minutes before we were up…oh my…all those students….agghhhhh. But it was for such a great cause, I just went after it! haha Here is the clip on youtube.
Then up nice and early on Saturday morning, May 7th, to participate in the Revlon 5k Run/Walk for Women’s Cancers. Since Mom won her battle with Breast Cancer in 2005 we have tried to participate in Cancer walks a few times a year. Our “big” one was when we participated in the 3 Day Walk, which was 60 miles around San Diego in 3 days…talk about crazy! BUT that was one of THE MOST rewarding experiences of my life! This years was much more low-key…it was a 5k run/walk around Los Angeles.
“Save The Tatas” should request my lil dude to be a model for their clothing line! haha
Per Bernie’s request we brought Owen along for the ride…which was difficult at times b/c he wanted to be held and not ride in the stroller…3 miles with a 30lber was tough! haha I have no clue what time we got, nor does that matter…but I DO know we got to see Halle Berry get her dance on which was pretty cool. When we go to these types of events I appreciate health so much more than usual. Seeing the Survivors like Mom, current women battling and pictures of those that lost their battle is all breath-taking. I hate cancer…I hate it so so so much. I really hope in my lifetime a cure is found, and I don’t have to worry about my future kids and grandkids having to deal with this horrific disease! I’m not sure why God has cursed our family with so much of it…maybe He thinks we are “able for it”…well whatever to that. Someone once asked me…”What inspires You?” and I had no clue. I didn’t know how to answer that question for the longest time. But I have my answer…its health. Health inspires me. My health, and the health of my loved ones! We ALL take our health for granted, at one point or another. That is just human nature…but when you don’t have your health, you realize just HOW important it is…and what joy it can bring to your life, your families life and your outlook on life. When I was sick, and the fear of losing my life was deep within me I thought to myself that “when” I beat this…I was going to try and lead a healthy lifestyle…to enjoy the things that I want to but not to deprive myself of the “bad” things either. I feel that I’m currently living a happy medium. I exercise, I stay positive and try to just live with and enjoy the cards that the Lord has dealt to me!
But the 3.2 miles done…we ended up in the Los Angeles Coliseum. Mom, Karen, Erika, Owen and Me, And Gabby!
Thanks ladies for standing by us when we were battling and continuing to stand by us as we fight to find a cure!! Love you!!
And on Monday…Yosh played in our first annual Seniors vs. Faculty Basketball game (a fundraiser for our school’s basketball program). I’m not going to lie…I was a little nervous the hubs might pull a muscle or get hurt somehow!! haha But no injuries…4 points, 1 rebound and only 1 bad pass…he did amazing!
And of course Daddy’s cheering section was full of little people Ü
